My husband and I found Residence il Giglio convenient to the city center via Florence's public transit system, and easy to connect with highways for excursions outside the city.
The best part, however, was the neighborhood where it is situated--it feels like home and offers the tourist a more authentic Italian experience.
This lacks the old world charm of the other places we stayed on our trip but made up with space, convenience, and neighborhood charm. We hope to return again one day.
Our room was designed to sleep 4--or even 5, with a pull out sofa in the living/dining/kitchen area. The spacious bedroom had a full and a single bed.If our close friends or kids had traveled along, we would not have been cramped, except for use of the single bathroom. Visitors from the USA might feel it inconvenient to have only a curtain between the rooms and the need to go through the bedroom to access the single bathroom. The kitchen provides only the most bare necessities, but we enjoying the readily available fresh foods "at home" was a real treat.
The residence has discontinued their bar (coffee and drinks) service, but there are ample bars and eateries within steps.
Be sure to bring maps and guides along with you as the desk staff are polite and willing but not necessarily well informed to give directions and have few travel resources at hand
