“Spend your Euros elsewhere”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2011

Where to start? Described as being 300 metres from the train station was fairly innacurate as no directions were otherwise provided. After walking for ages the cobblestones really did a number on our wheeled luggage. I called for directions and the grumpy voice on the other line sluffed me off with no regard. Upon arrival we were greeted with a grunt that we wouldn't be staying there but instead in some random other hotel. This was enough to ruin the 1st night there for us as we were tired and didn't need that kind of experience. On the plus side, the guy who was working the desk at the random hotel they put us in was really nice, keen to recommend attractions we hadn't heard of and the breakfast was better than most we had in Italian hotels. Spend your Euros elsewhere :)

“Wonderful Pensione on Pedestrian Street, Great Views of Cathedral and Bell Tower”

Simple, clean, friendly place in the ideal location, away from noisy busses and scooters, in the most interesting part of Florence. It is an easy walk from the train station. Ride the tiny elevator to the friendly reception desk. You will love it.

“Right in the centre, basic rooms at the right price”

You get what it says on the tin - it's in an unbeatable location, the building is genuinely old, the staff were friendly and helpful enough without being effusive, the room we had was fairly basic, but very clean and as we'd expected for the price - shame we got a room with 4 single beds for a romantic holiday though and they didn't have any others for us to move to! 30 second walk to the Duomo, 10/15 minutes walk from the train station depending on how heavy your bags are. Surprisingly quiet for such a central location, but take on board it is not a peaceful countryside location!

“Great location. Basic Rooms. Poor Service/Attitude.”

This was my second stay at this location. They are on the 2nd level of this building and there is another hotel (Aldini) on the 3rd floor. The location is exceptional to explore the city by foot; next door to the Duomo, a few steps (300m) to Palazzo & Piazza della Signoria, 70m to Piazza della Repubblica, 280m to Ponte Vecchio, 700m to the main train station. I walked everywhere & strongly suggest the 4-wheel suitcase models! The infrastructure (no frills elevator, big room, private bath, shutters, breakfast) of the hotel remains the same as 4-5 years ago. However, the customer service has taken a huge dive in the wrong direction. Although I expected that most of the staff speak limited English, I was surprised to experience the night/weekend manager to only speak it during checkout time & when talking about possible additional charges. Next time, I will book a different hotel, mostly based of my experience during checkout.

“A modest hotel in an outstanding location.”

My wife and I stayed five nights, a long time according to the innkeeper. For us the location was spectacular. We were an easy walk to everything on our list. The staff was friendly and helpful the continental breakfast was medeocre but edible, except the coffee which was quite good. Bathroom was small but clean and functional. The room was large and spare.

The street noise was considerable. Good ear plugs are essential. The hotel has done a pretty good job with shutters and windows but Florence is loud at times.

Tbs beds were firm, and the pillows almost as firm. If you like firm, you will love this place.

In short, an adequate, safe, clean and exceptionally convienient hotel.
