This hotel is avoidable. The good points are that it has free wifi and is close to the station and the Duomo, but that being said, Florence is small so as long as you don’t go beyond Piazza della Signoria, you will be close to the main sights and conveniences such as the station.
The room was nothing like the pictures shown online at the time of booking. The bathroom was private but not attached to the room, a fact that was not mentioned in the room description. The bathroom was outside the room at the end of a corridor. The bathroom was also barely 2 feet wide and 6 feet long. The sink, bidet, toilet and shower area are all in one row, jammed in next to each other. I am thin and could barely move around, if you are a larger person, you’ll be in trouble. The shower space is the same size as the area of a large cushion. There is no separation between the shower space and the toilet and it is so small that you will end up having put your foot on the toilet to shower properly. There is a weird smell in the room and bathroom. I do not know if this is due to some strange cleaning agent or if it is something else but it is strong and unpleasant.
The room was miniscule – the size of a large cupboard. There was a sink and desk stuffed right next to the bed. It’s really unpleasant to see a sink close to your bed. There was seepage on the walls. The walls are very thin so you can hear the conversations of the people in other rooms clearly. The bed was placed against a wall which had the bathroom of the adjoining room next to it so you could hear the toilet being flushed, people bathing and brushing their teeth loud and clear.
The room had one window that looked out onto the inner courtyard of the surrounding apartments so your view will be people’s laundry that is put out to dry etc. Therefore, you can get claustrophobic in this tiny room with no view in which all the furniture stacked up next to each other to fit it all in.
The bed linen was not changed at all during our stay so if you have a long stay you will have smelly sheets. There is no lift and the hotel is a zig-zag maze of stairs. Better to avoid if you have heavy luggage.
If you are travelling in the winter, the heat is not turned on. Only after repeated requests did they say they had turned it on and when it is, the radiator is placed in such a way that it has almost no impact on the temperature in the room. There is also no rug so you will get quite cold. We ended up putting the bedspread on the floor to keep our feet from getting cold.
Apparently, there are a couple of rooms with decent bathrooms, but these are just 2-3. And at the time of booking you have no idea what you will get. It is hit and miss. Maybe if you have one of those rooms, you might have a better experience. All in all, my stay here was uncomfortable and awful. I dreaded returning to hotel in the evenings and couldn’t wait to rush out in the morning.
