“excellent hotel 15 mins from the centre”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 May 2009

Although this hotel is a 15 minute walk from the centre - you can walk along the beautiful river bank and it really doesnt seem that far. The staff were very helpful and had good english. The room was excellent, spacious, clean and with everything we wanted. the bathroom was modern, clean and had a good shower. There are terraces to the hotel but we didnt use them as we were only there one night. The breakfast was good - although get there early to make sure there's still some of everything left (i think it's served until 9.30). If you're planning on flying into or out of florence airport (for info) the taxis will cost you 20 euros plus 1 euro per bag. We ate out at Golden View bar and restaurant - the food was really good - for 50euros you can get a three course meal while listening to their live jazz singer and if you're lucky enough you can get a seat overlooking the ponte vecchio and the river. There are loads of leather merchants in florence so make sure you haggle if you're thinking of parting with money. The queues for the duomo were huge when we were there so think about getting up early to get in before the hordes. If you're staying in Florence for a few days, a trip to siena is worthwhile - the train is direct and takes an hour and a half (12 euros 20 return).

“practical but...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2008

We found the hotel whilst driving into Florence.
It seems to have been recently renovated, and we were all looking forward to a comfortable nights sleep.
However the beds are really soft so none of the group could sleep well.
The bathrooms looked really clean on the first glance but there were a few stray hairs around. The power shower cabinet did not work well and did not drain well.
Breakfast was not worth it, Much better to drive into the city and have a real coffee.
But the price was ok and we could park easily.

“Cleanest bathrooms in Europe”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2007

The hotel rooms and service were nice. The bathrooms were immaculate! I couldn't believe, cleaner than my own..and a nice size for European standards. Breakfast was good, but not great selections...not very breakfasty for American standards. HOWEVER, they claim to have A/C, but they never used it. It was some of the worst sleep we've had and we really needed it after long days of walking and sightseeing. Sleeping with the windows open wouldn't have been bad if not for the extremely noisy street the hotel is on and it's location in Mosquitoville. My husband and I were covered in mosquito bites each morning (seriously 30+ each). The hotel management couldn't believe we had difficulty sleeping, there were no other rooms anyway.

“Home away from Home”

This was a great hotel! I loved the fact that it had a bed and breakfast feel to it. I realize some people may not like that but that is why I agree with another comment made by a traveler that The Lido may not be for everyone. The bathroom was excellent and very clean. I loved the big green window shutters. Very cute place and staff was great! Great location too.

“Just okay........no elevator!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 June 2007

We stayed here for 2 nights and honestly it was just okay. It wasn't very clean - the ceiling had cobwebs!! There's no elevator so we had to lug our big suitcases up 2 flights of stairs. There was no staff to help. They had about 3 cats hanging out and I'm highly allergic! It's a nice location and the staff was nice but I wouldn't stay here again.
