I visited Florence as a tutor with a group of art students, and we stayed at the Hotel Nizza. For an educational trip, the location was very good indeed: near to the railway station and in the midst of all the glorious beauty of Florence. The stunning Santa Maria Novella is a couple of minutes away on foot. It's possible to walk to practically anywhere in Florence, and the Nizza was very convenient for all the sights. The rooms are basic, but clean and adequate. There were rather a lot of stairs - my room was on the top floor. The breakfast was very simple - perhaps a little too simple. However, we were not there for a luxury break. The desk staff were polite. The overall impression I have of the hotel is of a sort of Pension - certainly not luxurious but for a no-frills base, it was ideal. Don't miss visiting the Santa Maria Novella Perfumery - it's called the Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella, and it's on the Via della Scala, 16. It doesn't look like a shop or a museum from the street. But do look out for it. They still use the recipes that the monks used for hundreds of years; beautiful lotions and scents - unmissable; expensive though!

We stayed at Hotel Nizza for three nights this week. After a long drive from the South of France we were greeted by a very friendly older gentleman who spoke very good English and French.
Our room was on the first floor and looked out onto a little courtyard, therefore very quiet at night time.
The room was clean and spacious with plenty of storage and a desk. The bathroom was a little on the small side but clean with fresh towels and plenty of hot water.
The breakfast was perfect to get you started for the day and you could also buy water/beer/wine from reception for your room if you should want.
A good free wifi connection was also available.
The best thing about this hotel was the location. There are hotels on every corner of every street but we never seemed to walk any further than 5 minutes to get back to the hotel!!
All the sights and train and bus stations are all within easy walking distance.

Our only negative points were that our double bed was actually two singles pushed together and they could do with some new pillows as ours were flat as pancakes!

Overall, good hotel, friendly staff and very well priced.

Stayed for 2 nights in october 2011. A small family run hotel within a walking distance from all sites and Railway station (which holds true for many other hotels in Florence as well, as it's quite a small city). Caring and hospitable staff I was checked in by a very nice lady Edi). met the owners later, good impression as well.) Clean and tidy rooms (A/c and heater in room). Good breakfast to start your tourist day (juices/teas/coffees, cereals/musli, bakery/cheese/ham/butter/jams).
Things to keep in mind:
(1) shower cabin might be small for "big" people
(2) the windows donot close completely (as this is an old building), so might be noisy during the night. but a pair of earplugs might be helpful :)
Overall, a good choice to spend a night at if you prefer to spend money on seeing Florence.

We stayed at Hotel Nizza for one week. Our double room on the first floor was clean and the bed sheets and towels fresh. All of the hotel staff we spoke to were English-speaking, friendly and made us feel at home. We chose this hotel because of the great location, very close to the railway and bus station and equally close to shops and restaurants with most of the major attractions being a short walk away. The only negative was that the street outside was noisy until about 3am, but the double glazed window shut out nearly all of this and the air conditioning appeared to be working although in October we did not need to use it. Overall, a good value for money hotel that I would recommend.
