The only strange thing for me was the small bathroom and the shower that wasn't separated, which means the floor had to be wiped up after a shower. Other than that (I've traveled to the Philippines, so this is minor), I enjoyed our stay there. The room was clean, comfortable and cute with "shabby chic", vintage furnishings and an air conditioner (it was a bit hot when we were there). But what I most liked about this place was the service. The staff could speak English, which was very helpful for us Americans new to Florence (we were in Rome beforehand, and didn't hear much English at our last hotel), and they really took care of us. There was a handsome, older man who either was the manager or the owner who looked like he was an actor back in the day, who was always there, making us breakfast, sometimes at the front desk, and making sure we were able to get in if we were out late. He was terrific. I only wish we stayed there longer. We would definitely stay there again.

Stayed for 2 days on a terrible bed (kind of a metal roll-away type) and contracted fleas. I woke up scratching and my wife did as well. However, she liked the staff and the elevator. I know how your asking how and elevator can be an attractive addition to a hotel? She sad it’s old and nostalgic. The staff was nice and location good. Breakfast was nothing more then your average continental breakfast found in the USA . Beware if your driving parking is going to cost 20.00 euros/night

I stayed in this hotel with my daughter. Hotel room was very clean. Around 15 minutes walk from the duomo. Very polite and friendly staff. Mr.Sergio is always there to assist guests in any way possible. Would gladly stay there again.

I stayed here at the end of July. My trip to Florence didn't start very well (we were delayed in Zurich overnight and my partner forgot to pack his insulin), however, the staff at Il Granduca could not have been more helpful. We were warmly welcomed and my partner was directed to the pharmacy for replacement insulin.

Rooms were clean, tidy and there was plenty of room for clothing and bags. The bathroom was small but not unpleasantly so. Air conditioning was available (but not used), also TV and telephone.

Breakfast was substantial with a choice of cereals, juices, hot beverages, bread and cake (being English I've never been offered cake for breakfast). I had a lovely shot of espresso every morning and didn't drink one in Florence that could have bettered it.

All the staff were very helpful, friendly and spoke good English. They are an asset to the hotel.

The hotel itself is a reasonable distance from the centre of Florence but I didn't feel that it was a disadvantage, it allowed me to walk past Carabe every night! If you're fit, enjoy exploring and like to see normal everyday life then the location is perfect.

In general, I will definitely return (when funds allow) as this was a lovely hotel.
