“Don't stay here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

Unfortunately in August 2011 we stayed at this hotel for two nights. The hotel is situated on the second floor, access to reception is via a two man lift (without luggage, or one person with luggage). I have never experienced such rude, obnoxious staff in my entire life who do not care about you whatsoever. The room was small and smelly. Bathroom smelt, carpet was stained and frayed, airconditioning does not work, despite numerous complaints to the uninterested staff this resulted in sleep deprivation. House keeping did not even wash our glasses. No safe in the room, fridge didn't work, no kettle provided and no safe. We requested ice for our drinks (as fridge didn't work), staff gave us a sheet of ice cubes (approx. 12 cubes) and when we went to obtain some more ice they had run out!!! Be warned DO NOT waste your money by staying here.

Room Tip: I am not aware of any good rooms in this hotel.

Dear Sir/Madame,

Thank you for your review, as soon as I have read it I have investigate with the reception’s staff and despite what you have writhed I need to clarify some points, just in order to offered to other readers the true of the fact which for some reasons it is not exactly what is included in your comment.
Air conditioning is working, maybe it did not satisfy your feeling but it was working, we know the engine when outside is too hot and run every single seconds want make as cold as your would expect, therefore it was working and you where the lonely one complaint against 5 other rooms that the engine distribute air cond.
The mini fridge in the room was working as well, maybe you did not understand that it was a mini fridge not a freezer to build ice cube, for this reason we gave to you ice for 5 times, only after the fifth times we run out of ice until the next day, and it this not true that was after your first time request.
None where we publish as facilities in-room safe and kettle, however we offer central safe service at the reception and hot water at any time (day and night) from the breakfast’s coffee machine, for this reasons complaint for something that it is not written as in room facilities it is unfair and incorrect.
I’m terrible sorry for the dirty glass not change from the chambermaid, therefore have been replaced as soon you have informed the front desk, human mistakes, please forgive us for such big problem occurred during your stay.
It is clear that even if you return to Florence one day you’ll not return to our hotel, but I can read such awareness’ even to some of the best 5 stars hotels worldwide, this happening make business running from one company to another, I’m sure in any chase you’ll remember us when next time you could find a worst hotel during your trip, there is always a possibility to find something better as well as something worst, that’s life and for this reason I thank you for the business you have permitted to our Company this time to gain and wishing you all the best and our warmest regards.
Alamanni staff.

“Disgusting”

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Staff were arrogant and rude. Air conditioning didn't work (weather was very hot, we stayed August 2011) and they wouldn't even supply us with a fan, fridge didn't work efficiently, carpet was torn and filthy dirty, not only in the rooms but in the hall ways. They don't even supply you with a kettle in your room.... You had to carry your luggage up several steps before reaching the elevator which was approx. three foot square. Overall DISGUSTING. Staff need lessons in manners and public relations, as they are what can make or break a good holiday......

Room Tip: There are no good rooms that I know of......

Dear Guest,

It is evident that you are on the same party as the previous comment, for this reason we limited the reply only on the part of your comment regarding our staff manner’s lessons, we do need always something new to learn, and during your stay with us we have learned that even if we do everything is possible to make your stay better its never enough.
Perhaps in Italy to be rude is something different meaning for this reason we avoid your claim about our rudeness’s just because we have done nothing more than trying to serve you in all matter you need without makes you happy, but please don’t blame us for your unhappy life, every second you have spent in our hotel it was clear you where looking for trouble, unfortunately you found a reasonable problem solving staff and for this reason you can say we are rude.
Any way, we are very happy to run our small business hotel with meeting lots of nice people from all over the world and we know in advance we can meet people like you, gladly that you are part of that percentage below of zero which doesn’t make any bad feeling to us.
Sincerely yours
Alamanni staff All

“dont touch it”

I booked this hotel without the advice of my travel agent and it was an awful mistake. The location is disgusting with the overpowering smell of stale urine in doorways and we had to negotiate passed several women sitting in a doorway obvoiusly high on something. It states it has a lift but it is very very small and you have to manhandle heavy luggage up 5 steps to reach the lift. Not easy when elderly as we are. There is a doorman at the entrance to this block but he would not even say good day to us!!!
My husband first inspected the hotel and told me to check it out. I asked to see the room we had been allocated and was given the key. The room was very shabby and faded, and was not what I was expecting. The carpets were grubby and stained both in the room and in the hallways.
The photos on the internet have been touched up++++++++as the whole place is dull and drab. When I told the person in the bar (doulbles as reception) that I would not stay there he said "What do you expect for three stars"
We had stayed in three star hotels in Rome and Venice before this with no problems.
Through an agency we managed to get a 4 star hotel for our three nights at a much less price than I had paid for this dump.
I have booked hotels before on the internet with no trouble but I will be very wary from no on. Two other people did exactly the same as us when we were there and refused to stay
THIS PLACE IS A DUMP

Room Tip: dont belive what you see on the net

Thank you for your review,
besides of all negative points you have pointed up to, which I will no discuss because it is evident that your exaggeration in terms and inappropriate verbal written descriptions describing the hotel itself it is not true at all.
I'm delighted of your review as will aware future Guests like you not to make reservation in our hotel, because as often happened we must say sorry sold out to so many Guest that would like to stay with us with no regrets.
You write that we manage the photo to make it better against what it is, sorry to say you are completely wrong as we have spend no 1 penny for photo’s falsification; we would be more happy if also happy guest are so kind to write a review, therefore it is evident that most of the people have something better to do rather than writing a reviews, otherwise wouldn't be a reason to have 167 reviews since 2002 and if you think we run the hotel with a range of 10000 guests each year, at this time it would be nearly 100.000 guests against 167 reviews, for us it means 0.167 percent (nearly zero percent).
To be honest it make me thinking a little bit but not much, and certainly it make me not to worry for the future.
We advertise that the hotel is located on the second floor, hotel rating have been giving to government agency after having make supervision of the rooms standards, if you think they have done wrong job just write to them but don’t blame us because of 3 stars, lift is small like many others in Florence, because we are not in las vegas, I wish I could be in las vegas (I love it) but we are in Florence, the most ancient and historical city in the world, that means many things, small lift is the one.
At least I would be grateful if you would writing the true and afterwards saying that you just don’t like it and certainly does make any difference, I know sometimes it is impossible to please everyone, even if sometimes we try to do our best it cams back like if we did nothing, you would say its our job ok, but do you remember how did came up to our hotel and on which arrogant speaking you have been approaching, showing your most disgusting face like if you been enter to a pork ranch, do you believe you are in the Wright to do that just because you’re a Guest??
Lots of Guests in this web site complaint about our rudeness, simply they don’t remember who was the rude and arrogant first.
Best wishes

“Very happy with our stay here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2011

An astonishing range of opinions in these reviews. Hotel Alamanni seems to be like Marmite - you either love it or hate it. I did not see the negative comments until after I had made the booking, and if I had seen them earlier I might not have booked at all, so I would like to redress the balance a little.
We stayed for a week in room 101 (better than it sounds). We found it clean, well-furnished and comfortable. Via Alamanni is a noisy street but the double windows provide excellent sound insulation. The hotel is conveniently located near the railway station and is easy to find, despite what some reviewers have said.
If you plan to stay here, you should be aware that the room price does not include breakfast, which is 7 euro extra per person. We were disappointed about this as none of the other hotels we stayed at in Italy made an additional charge. The surcharge is now clearly mentioned on the hotel website but we do not think that this was so at the time we booked. However, there are plenty of shops nearby where you can buy food if you do not want to pay the extra charge.
As we didn't have the breakfast, we had no contact with other people staying at the hotel. I do not think I have ever stayed anywhere where I have been less conscious of the presence of other guests.
Our experience of the reception staff was that they were generally friendly and willing to help, apart from the languid gentleman who dealt with us when we checked out. It may not be second nature for them to say things like 'Have a nice day' or 'Enjoy!' but we found we could live with that.
This hotel is good value for money and we would be happy to stay here again.

“Terrible service and attitude from staff. Won't be back. Good location.”

We prepaid 5 nights for 3 rooms for our 6-member family (our 4 kids aged 22 thru 14). Since there was an electricity problem with some rooms, they gave us a suite, with terrace, to accommodate 4 of us. That was totally fine. Since the suite had a small kitchen, equipped with utensils, pots, etc., we decided to use it to cook a couple of meals there. We unsuccessfully tried to light the gas stove so we asked for help. The guy in turn just repeated how the knobs had to be turned, and nothing else; when I insisted no gas was coming out of the burners and suggested there may be a gas valve specific for the suite's gas use, he just said he did not know the specifics of the gas stove functioning. When I suggested he called someone that could know about it, he just said "Oh, they would kill me!", and did nothing else. 3-4 hours laters, by coincidence, we found, in fact, a valve to open the gas flow, and could finally use the stove. Also, one of the bath's light went off, and they ignored the request to replace it. Our kids had to use the bath, and shower, in the dark. The terrace was dirty, and had old, discarded furniture on it. The second "room" was just an area with 2 twin beds that was separated from the living area by a curio cabinet and a flimsy, ugly cloth that served as "curtain". We showed interest on reserving a tour to the Tuscanny area, but were waiting for some details that the hotel guy would get for us to finally make the tour reservation. The reservation was made by the hotel even though we did not confirm wanting the reservation, since we had not received any more info on the pending details. Oh, then we were the "bad" guys: the staff won't even return our "buongiorno"!
