Booked a weekend in Florence for my girlfriend's birthday (yeah she's a lucky bird). Had to reconsider my room-mate of choice when greeted in Panama's beautiful lobby by the impossibly suave Italian stallion with perfect English behind reception. Our room was in the back building, as requested, which was quiet (apart from the Japanese's early-morning hysteria), warm enough for January (blankets and heater already provided) and very comfortable. Staff are charming (some perhaps too charming...) with excellent English and great patience in the face of our pidgin-Italian, and the owner is really worth meeting if you see him around. Simple but delicious buffet breakfast with barista-made coffee on tap makes such a good start to every day. Location isn't as close as some other hotels on offer, but it's an idyllic setting, and the fact that you can walk into the historical centre via about ten different must-see sites more than makes up for the walk, which would no-doubt be a pleasure anyway in slightly warmer weather; the hotel is also really to close the big central train station, Santa Maria Novella. Price is ridiculously reasonable (at least it was booking in December), especially with breakfast included and en-suite bathrooms. Will absolutely be back again, just need to find out the receptionist's evenings-off...
Room Tip: Stayed in the quiet, comfortable back building. Just ask during booking.
