We stayed at this hotel for one night in September. It was the meeting point in Florence for a walking group tour we were about to join so wasn’t our own choice. We had read about this hotel and tried to be objective, knowing that it was probably a three star establishment.
The public areas are spacious and of good quality. But as soon as one moves into the accommodation areas standards plummet. We were assigned a room which featured an extremely loud and continuous humming/whining noise. The receptionist seemed surprised, came to check, agreed that it was unacceptable, and assigned us another room. This one was smaller but quiet. It featured walls lined with laminate [hardly Italian ‘class’], a small bathroom with tiny shower and no in-room safe.
The hotel’s breakfast room could be likened to a 1960s canteen, plastic tables and chairs, totally devoid of any redeeming features. The food was very limited [no fruit, dried out bread etc] and the service almost non-existent - the ‘take it or leave it’ variety.
After a wonderful 5 nights stay at a small, sophisticated bed and breakfast style hotel 500m down the road [Hotel Villa Antea], we had a real basis for comparison. We would not return to La Fortezza and cannot recommend it. As experienced travelers [all continents, 75 countries over 25 years] this was a very disappointing stay.
