Less than 5mins walk from the SMN station, a friend had recommended this place to me and we loved it. Valentino (the owner) was an absolute delight; friendly, helpful and hilarious and all of his staff were equally nice. We had a ground floor room at the back of the breakfast room (so no stairs to climb) and it was enormous, with a small lounge room area and a massive bathroom. The windows looked out from a sunken position on to a neighbouring garden and there was a small balcony a floor up as well. It was great value for money and they offer a fantastic breakfast and great espressos! It's an 'art hotel' and the foyer has a piano, books, nice artwork and we even got reimbursed for some exhibition tickets we bought at the Strozzi Gallery because we were staying there. A lovely atmosphere and an easy walk to all of the sights in Florence, we'd go back there in a flash.

Stayed 3 nights in the Artist's double room. Room size was not huge and with "antique" furniture. Still reasonable and very clean, though.
Environment is surely interesting and fits someone looking for some old Europe style.
Position is a great point of this hotel: very near to train station and walking distance from most of the great places in Florence. Better contact the hotel ahead of time if you plan to reach it by car, though.
Internet was free but unavailable on the first floor during our stay (they didn't know it and I told them the router had a broken wifi antenna... not sure if they repaired after we left).

Altogether a great experience for a great price.

We stayed for 3 nights in the quadruple room, which was located on the ground floor of the hotel. It was quite a large room by European standards and was comfortable and clean. The hotel is very convenient if you are traveling by train as it is an easy 5 minute walk from the SMN train station. We arrived at 6.00am by train and we were able to leave our luggage in their storage room until check-in, and also after check-out. We had a late night departure from Florence, and they were very kind in letting us use the lounge and kitchen area to fill in some time waiting for our train. We have 3 small children, and so we greatly appreciated this gesture. The hotel is also an easy 5-10 minute walk to the main sights of Florence. The breakfast buffet included a nice selection of breads, pastries, meats and cheeses, and yoghurt and fruit. Not extensive, but more than sufficient. They also make cappuccinos and brewed coffee. The staff were all very helpful and courteous. They recommended good restaurants and arranged a tour booking for us. The hotel has some very lovely antique pieces of furniture throughout the common areas. Some may consider this to be just old and dated, however, combined with the lovely artwork and furnishings it gave the hotel a very authentic 'old world' Italian atmosphere. They have a 24hour reception, and it was not noisy at night. The heating worked well and the room was well cleaned each day. We felt that this hotel was very good value and would be happy to recommend it to other families traveling with children.
