I am in the travel business since 1970, that means 41 years travelling a lot.
I never been guest and that kind of hotel. Horrible in all aspects. Since that I never use the same tour operator in Europe that booked us in that depressing hotel.
I wonder who gave 4 falling stars to that place????
i recently stayed at this hotel the colombus florence. it was recommended through ich group hotels which normally have good room rates and good quality.
The hotel staff are possibly the worst ive ever come across, every minor request was a massive struggle for them e.g can I check in? or can you pass me my key. The lady on reception was rude. Language barrier was not a problem as the staff tend to communicate more with grunting disapproving noises instead of attempting to even look you in the eye. There was an old guy working in the restaurant who was happy and cheerful. But that was it.
Breakfast was a joke, with only 1 of the 4 mornings delivering fresh bread. As there was only a few people staying at the hotel food was kept and kept, and ...kept! and considering bread was the only thing on offer that was a shame.
Lots of school trips seemed to be staying which are understandably noisy which I didnt have a problem with, but one day I went and spoke to reception and asked that maybe at 3am something could be done to have some quiet time but as usual i was met with a shrug of shoulders from the person working there.
its a good walk to the city centre but very nice along the river if you manage a 30 minute walk or 12 euro in a cab.
Faulty towers would not compare to this place.
It's durty, noisy and not well keeped. The breakfast is very poor and the distance to the center off Florence is more than 2 km.
PROS:
- we stayed with a tour group and we seemed to be one of the lucky ones - we got a double room on the top floor - it was a spacious room, with a very big bathroom
- there is an air con in the room, though it is a bit too noisy to sleep with on
CONS:
- the lift only goes to level 5, so we had to carry our suitcase up the stairs to 6
- a bit of noise from the corridor - when the people next door were opening their door it sounded like they were opening ours
- while there was nothing to complain about in our room, other people on our tour had a much less satisfactory experience (main complaint from them was tiny bathroom)
