“great stay if travelling by train or plane, avoid if roadtripping!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I reserved a room at this hotel as hotels in Florence are more expensive than I expected, and this was definitely a great value for a central hotel in Florence. You are right around the corner from the Duomo and other sites in Florence are all within walking distance. Plus, you are in the old town / pedestrian area, so its very difficult to get around by car / taxi even if you wanted to!

On that subject, I really regret having booked this hotel, because we were doing a roadtrip of Italy... and finding parking anywhere near the car was nearly impossible. We ended up parking 20 minutes' walking distance from the hotel. And overnight we had to pay something like 20-30 EUR.

Retrospectively it would have been much more cost-effective to have stayed outside the city centre, and to have taken a taxi into town and back from dinner. I will keep this in mind for future roadtrips!

Room Tip: the rooms at this hotel are terrible. entirely livable and clean, but ugly and poorly furnished. if...

Dear odziggel,

we thank you for taking the time to share your impressions about our hotel with other travellers.

Location has been discussed over and over and is one of the most important features our hotel can offer, so we are particularly happy that you had the chance to enjoy it.
On the other hand, we are aware that being so centrally located, it might become difficult to arrive by car. In fact, we usually mention to guests who call to enquire about parking facilities to evaluate, if possible, other means of transportation, especially cause the main station is just 10 minutes away.
About the garage, the cheapest option we are aware of costs 20 Euros (every 24 hours) and is located 15 minutes walk from the hotel. Instead, our agreement with a nearby garage is quoted 28 Euros (every 24 hours) but also includes the tax to access the ZTL and valet services so, all in all, we believe it's a reasonable deal.
Unfortunately, with all the narrow streets, overpriced parking facilities and other car-related issues like cameras scattered around the city, it is not a secret to anybody that Florence is not exactly car-friendly.
One last thing, regarding your phrase "it would have been much more cost-effective to have stayed outside the city centre, and to have taken a taxi into town and back from dinner" we would like to advice you to evaluate that carefully, cause also taxi are not exactly cheap and you might end up paying almost the same with the nuisance of being far from the main attractions of Florence.

We would like to thank you once again for your positive feedback and we are glad that you chose our hotel for your stay in Florence.

“Terrific location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

My wife and I, and our three daughters stayed here for three nights. We had two rooms, a double and triple. Triple was good size and had a window overlooking the street below. The double looked out onto an alley of sorts. Noise was somewhat of an issue for the triple room, but only for a brief time after the bars closed. Location made up for the rooms themselves, which were decorated about the same as a dorm room when you arrive at college...very spartan. Either way, they served their purpose and, did I mention the location??? Front desk staff was efficient, not exactly happy to see you - but they do their job. Breakfast was good.

I gave this a very good for location only.

Dear jr0000,

we thank you for taking the time to share your impressions about our hotel with other travellers and we are glad to know that you had an enjoyable time in Florence.

Location has been discussed over and over and is one of the most important features our hotel can offer, so we are particularly happy that you had the chance to enjoy it.

Our rooms are simple, we do not know if they look like dorm rooms as we have no personal knowledge on that :), what we know is that the majority of our guests find them comfortable and adequately equipped and that's what matters more.

Regarding the staff, we respect your point of view but we do not agree with it. Sometimes we are very busy at the desk and somebody might perceive this as unfriendliness, we are sorry that you felt that way, but that's not how we feel about our clients at all. The moment you enquire about something plays a relevant role anyhow, just to give you an example, we once had some guests asking for dinner recommendation while behind them there was literally a line of people waiting to check in, and it's easy to understand what a much higher level of attention you can get if you ask the same question when the person on duty has less on his/her hands.

We would like to thank you once again for your positive feedback and we are glad that you chose our hotel for your recent stay in Florence.

Dear lick041277,

we thank you for taking the time to share your impressions about our hotel with other travellers and we are glad to know that you had an enjoyable time in Florence.

We are truly happy that you appreciated what Albergo Firenze has to offer. Traffic is almost non existing in the streets next to our hotel. Piazza Donati is a tiny square with one access only, while Via del Corso, although not pedestrian, is always crowded by people so cars rarely go by.

Regarding the staff, we are glad that you found us helpful, it's always nice to see that our efforts are appreciated.

We would like to thank you once again for your positive feedback and hope to have you again among our guests soon.

“All the charm of a college dorm room with more noise”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

Of our two week honeymoon where I got a horrible virus, missed our train to venice and had to spend most of the day in a train station and then my wife got sick.... this hotel was the worst part of the trip. Our street side room was incredibly noisy until 6 am. The bathroom was impossibly tiny and the room looked like an uninhabited dorm room. When the light went out in the bathroom, the guy at the front desk said that he couldnt fix it because the guy who fixes things is gone for the day (at 10 am). I said "give me a light bulb, I'll fix it:" but he still refused. The guy at the front desk at night was a nigthmare. The free internet required a password obtained from the front desk and was only valid for an hour. When asked for a password, the guy just said, "That machine is broken."
The only positive about the place is the location. You can't beat how close it is to all the great sites of florence and some great shops and eateries. If you are on a trip where you don't mind roughing it and are deaf, this is the place for you. All others, I'm sure there are better places.

Dear Matt M,

we thank you for taking the time to share your impressions about our hotel with other travellers. We are sorry for all the trouble you had, outside and inside Albergo Firenze, especially on a so important occasion.

As we and others mentioned on this pages, We are centrally located and with that comes pros (walking distance to basically anything in town) and cons (noise from the streets).
Although we are eight months away from your stay, we would like to try to explain what occurred to you. Let's start with the internet, our previous system sometimes did not work properly (that's why it has been replaced) so it might be that to somebody who is not too familiar with computers, it could look as broken, simply cause it wasn't printing passwords anymore.
Our maintenance is on duty every morning six days out of seven. We checked their schedule for May and there was no day when they left at 10AM, so we assume that there was some sort of misunderstanding and he probably wasn't on duty at all that day. Also, you mention that you spoke about this to a guy at the desk at 10AM, but according to our schedule the only male day receptionist we have, never worked in the morning during your stay. Anyhow, since we are not 100% sure about your stay dates we might not be accurate as necessary, but we are sure you will forgive us, after all we are talking about eight months ago. :)

Concluding, we would like to bring to your attention that two star hotels do not normally offer maintenance service, which means that when something needs to be fixed they will contact external workers who will be available according to their personal schedule, which as you can easily understand, might lead to further delays.

We would like to thank you once again for your feedback, although we are sorry that your honeymoon in Florence wasn't as pleasant as expected.

Keeping in mind the difference in the quality of hotels in Europe as compared to North America, this place was great! It was nothing fancy but it was clean, comfortable, the staff were great and it all the amenities you'd want. My fiance actually proposed in our hotel room while we were there!! This place will definitely hold a special place in our hearts :)

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views. Since it's close to the Duomo, you want a higher floor room for...
