We couldn't have wished for a more convenient base in Florence. Right overlooking one of the main Piazzas in central Florence, yet fairly soundproof. We could walk outside the front dor and find restaurants, cafes, shops and most importantly Gelato on the same block and be within 2-3 blocks of the Duomom Uffizi gallery and other major attractions.
A minor quibble as per all older buildings, is that we couldn't get all 4 of us into the lelvator together, but as it's only a 4 storey building, it wan't too long to wait, or you can use the stairs. It's just checking in and leaving with luggage that it's a bit of a juggle.
Word of warnin-don't drive into Florence. It's near impossible to stop/park near the apartments to unload and carry your luggage up. Florence police don't book you, but they have cameras and send you fines via your rental car company if tyou drive/park somewhere you shouldn't. The other major issue with driving is that GPS systems can't find the location too easily, with a maze of narrow one way streets with tall buildings and quick turns making a GPS next to useless in finding exact location and working out when you've turned a corner. Check in is via the Hotel de Lanzi, about 2 blocks away. When we couldn't find the apartments via GPs (and didn't have a map), the hotel were extremely helpful and after we rang them,, they sent someone from reception to find us and guide us to the apartment, help us into the apartment with the luggage and arranged someone from a local (but very expensive) parking garage to come an get rid of the car for us. For the remainder of the time, we didn't really need to go to the hotel and were happy to have our breakfasts in the apartment, using the hideaway kitchenette and we even had a dinner there without too much trouble.
Our Kids loved the location, also being close to the markets for those value priced leather jackets and other leather goods. Also on the same block as La Rinascentre, one of the larger dapratment stores and the Xara shop, that my oldest daugher loved.
