“What a lucky find in Florence”

We are very grateful to the "Hotel De Pucci" who cancelled our reservation and refunded us at the last minute after they found they could get more money for their rooms due to a fashion expo. This brought us to the Residence La Repubblica . This newly renovated , 3 bedroom 2 storey apartment is elegantly decorated . The building is located in a gorgeous Piazza that has sandstone buildings surrounding it. They house small hotels and apartments upstairs and have cafes and restaurants downstairs. The pics of the Repubblica's rooms, we saw on the net are old and are not what we stayed in.They had just finished renovating when we arrived. The apartment is close to the train station. We were able to walk there which is convenient .Also, the staff were great.Elisa was especially helpful .We had a problem with our travel card and they helped us sort it out .
The boutique shops are all around the area as are the main historical attractions. Don't miss the Florentine indoor food market which has an array of things to see and sums up to an interesting morning. We were able to taste berries that we had never had before and the colourful pastas and their decorations were great. We had breakfast and lunch there and ended up buying tortellini and prosciutto and cooking it in our fabulous kitchen! My husband and I are early rises so, we would go for cappuccino and brioche ( best food on earth) in the morning, do some sightseeing and the go and get our teenagers to continue the day.! The position of your accommodation can make or break your holiday.

“Exceeded my expectations”

Great apartment in perfect location for exploring Florence. The place was clean, large, and had all of the important amenities (washing machine, dish washer, stove). This comes in handy for cooking as eating out in Florence is very expensive! One worry I had was that all of the noise in the piazza repubblica would be troublesome. The windows were very thick so I didn't hear much at all, actually. There were a couple of great concerts in the square while I was there and the area was very much alive with activity. The owner, Mr. Lanzi, lives in the complex and has his own apartment there, so everything is looked after pretty well. He might have been the man who let the other reviewers in when they buzzed the front of the building! Finally, the value was good and the price was right.

“Best location in Florence”

Staying at Piazza Republicca is the perfect location to see all the sites in Florence. We greatly enjoyed having an apartment because breakfasts in Italy are generally bad, and we were able to buy and cook American breakfast.

It was a five minute walk from the Uffizzi Gallery and the river, plus the streets were closed to cars on the weekend. There was a nice wine, cheese and produce market in the piazza as well as excellent jazz music.

The only drawback is that we were trapped in the elevator for a half hour until the fire department arrived and got us out.

“Fantastic location, apartment comfortable but lacking the basics”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 April 2011

2 adults & 2 young children (3 & 9 months). The check in process is frustrating, having to go to Hotel De Lanzi - MORE than just a few steps from the property. We buzzed at the front door of the Apartments and a man from the hotel came and helped us with our luggage up the stairs to the lift (which only fits 3 people). The room looked great with all the facilities required to house the 4 of us including dishwasher & washing machine, a mezzanine bedroom well stocked kitchenette. Then at check in was told we were in the wrong room. The room we were moved to (in number 4 building) was smaller, had a poor excuse for a kitchenette that was missing cutlery, bowls and basic cooking utensils. There was no dishwasher - which is fine except the kitchen sink didn't have a plug!
The man at reception on the first day was very sympathetic and his English was excellent however he was unauthorised to move us and suggested we come back the next morning to speak with the director. She was quite blunt with me, blamed me for giving the wrong name for the room mix up. I said I would prefer the type of room we saw initially and she said this was only for 2 people, that NO rooms for 4 people had a washing machine in them. Does that make sense? We listed the missing items and to their credit they were quickly replaced, except that the plug for the sink didn't fit. She was also helpful in locating a laundromat & supermarket for us.
Our nine month old collected lots of black hairs whilst crawling around the apartment.

The location is remarkable, with all of Florence's attractions easily reached on foot. The Piazza Della Republica has plenty of restaurants to choose from including the famous Gillis.

The place was less than what we would expect for a self catering city apartment and for over 200 euros per night represented very poor value for money.

Room Tip: Fine for 2 people, not for young families

“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2010

My friends and I stayed here the one night before we moved on and the room was new, clean and large with a little kitchenette. Bathroom was nice as well. It's wonderfully located in the Piazza Repubblica and the view from our window was great - overlooking the piazza. It was also noise proof.

The only odd thing was that when you get there there is no reception...it's an apartment house. You buzz them from the outside and someone comes to let you in and show you the room. Then after lugging your luggages up the one flight of stairs to the elevator and dropping the bags off in the room, you have to go to the actual hotel that owns this a few blocks away (not even 5 min) and check in there. It's just an odd process and that one flight of stairs a pain if you have big luggages. Other than that the location was perfect.
