I booked this hotel in April for a trip in September. The online booking was not working for me, so I called, spoke with staff, took a name and wrote a letter. I had all this ammunition with me when we went to check in on the morning of the reservation. We were told our rooms were not ready - we were a little early, but because I understand some Italian I heard the cleaning lady say to the hotel staff they could not clean the room because they could not get in the room. But they encouraged us to leave our luggage tucked in a corner of the lobby and we left to explore the city. We returned exhausted after a full 12 hrs of signtseeing. We were told we had no room by the same person that was on the desk when we left at 11, hmmmm no night staff? Poor fella. He explained the fire marshall had closed rooms on the 2nd floor because their fire alarms were mal functioning. He even took the time to show my husband the alarm panel. But, since I've read the other reviews about all the issues and problems in the hotel and of sending people elsewhere, I wonder the validity of the story. We sat in the lobby waiting for him to arrange other accommodations, which he did. So, 45 min. later we were sent off in a cab to a location even closer to the train, which benefitted us because we went to Rome the next a.m. on the train. On our return two days later, we were reimbursed for the $20 difference in the room as well as the cab fare. C'est la vie, opps wrong language. It was an unfortunate situation, we were sympathetic and we were taken care of. The hotel we were sent to stay in was a lovely apartment with full kitchen and a living room. The car was safe in the garage for 3 days and in the end, we were happy, but felt jilted - hey, we're American - they can do what they want because there are probably plenty Italians that want the rooms. I would be hesitant to recommend based on our experience.
