“Majestic was definitely the worst hotel I have ever stayed at”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2009

I have to stay that when I booked this hotel I didn’t do much research. I booked it through a popular website and it had a four star rating. Also, my grandparents had stayed at the hotel twenty years ago and supposedly it was a nice hotel. It was the worst hotel we every stayed at. We stayed at the hotel for five nights so we got to know the hotel pretty well.

As for their onsite parking, it cost 25 Euros a day. The one and only day we wanted to take the car out we ended up having to wait 45 minutes (after asking for assistance) for someone to come and move the car that was blocking our car and to open the gate.

The breakfast was horrible!! The coffee was disgusting and literally green. The orange juice was watered down. We ended up eating outside the hotel. Breakfast staff was unfriendly.

The website I booked the hotel through said they have wireless Internet. They didn’t. They just said it was “broken”. We asked when it will be working again and they didn't give us an answer or even a time frame. No apologies. It never worked the whole time we were there.

One thing I found odd was the piano bar. It was never opened so we were curious and asked if they even have a bartender. They said they do and would send one to the bar. After waiting for at least 30 minutes, a bartender finally arrived and took our order. We asked the bartender if they even have a piano player in the evening, like they claim, and he said they do and that the piano player only plays in the winter. Sure…

We had to change rooms the first day because our first room didn't have a working telephone and television. Also, the toilet was running and was extremely loud so we requested that someone come look at it. They called the bellboy and when the bellboy arrived he was obviously unhappy to be there but fiddled around with the toilet. Nothing happened. After he did NOT fix it, he told us that it does that, and essentially there was nothing he could do about it. Then we mentioned the telephone didn’t have a dial tone and he said it doesn’t. Okay. My mom, now upset, went down to the manager and asked that at the very least they could fix the toilet. After we complained, they moved us into their "suite" which was only slightly bigger with less stains on the carpet. When we were packing up our stuff to move to the second room, the same bellboy just watched us in the doorway, and started yelling at us that this was ”his room now” and that we need to hurry up, which was completely unprofessional. We were in utter shock. I have to say, our new room now had a working phone and television (sometimes). But instead of the toilet running we got a shower with a broken door. It was a disaster. The doors didn’t shut and water would leak all over the floor. There was hardly any water pressure and if we were lucky we got hot water. The shower was extremely dirty. See pictures. It was obvious it was never cleaned. Curtains were dirty and had holes. It was pretty obvious the rooms were stripped and hadn’t been updated in many many years. The curtains were partially hanging on curtain rods. Baseboards were broken and nails were hanging out. Some electrical outlets had no safety covers. Beds were supported by plywood. One of the elevators didn’t work the whole time we were there.

The problem with this hotel is that it is advertised as a four star hotel. You are warned. It is not. It is a one star…AT BEST.

“Bedbugs!!!”

Myself and my girlfriend checked into the Hotel Majestic for 1 night in Florence. We were touring around Italy by car, and found this hotel on the internet and as it said it included parking and looked to be a decent 4 star hotel we booked it.

Upon arrival we were told that the parking was an extra €25 a night - we told the staff that it didn't say this on the booking website and they told us that they know this but even still it is extra. We weren't too bothered by this - parking in Florence is expensive.

The hotel seemed a bit old and delapidated - the bathroom was very old and in need of refurbishment, the light flickered, the tv wouldn't change channel, it didn't seem very clean, but as we were only staying for 1 night we were happy enough with it as the location was good, but it is definitely not a 4 star hotel...

Early the next morning my girlfriend woke up to use the bathroom, only to find specks of blood on the sheets. We pulled back the sheets to see the bed was crawling with bugs!

We went down to the reception, but as it was very early (5.45am) only the porter was on duty. We told him the issue and he offered to change rooms for us but there was no way we were going to do this. We wanted a full refund so we could get out of there. We waited in the reception until 8 until a receptionist arrived into work, and told him the problem and that we were not paying. It turned out we had to contact the website we booked the hotel through to get our refund. The receptionist couldn't have been more helpfull, allowing us to use the internet etc, and confirming with the booking agents that we had reported a problem. The booking agent refunded us fully and we weren't charged for parking!

Needless to say it was an absolutely appauling experience and has been a lesson to us both to take a closer look at these reviews before booking anywhere.

“Very Enjoyable Stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2008

My girlfriend and I booked this hotel well before any of these bad reviews were posted and were very concerned about the place. Entirely Without Reason!! We really enjoyed our stay there and would definitely stay there again. The hotel was in good condition, our room was very clean, we used the airconditioning 24/7 (we arrived during the recent heatwave, 35-39 degrees!) and it worked well. The hotel is a very short walk from the railway station and was suprisingly quiet! In fact it was lovely to wake up to the distant toll of church bells. Our room overlooked the lovely roof garden & we could see the roof of the San Lorenzo chapel and the Duomo. The hotel is perfectly placed to visit the plethora of attractions of Florence - everywhere is in very easy walking distance. I must take issue with a few things in previous reviews. The staff were as friendly and helpful as all Italians are. Like all people if you are polite they will respond in kind! Italians are animated and vocal in conversation - this could be why one reviewer believed the hotel staff were arguing outside their room. The staff only worked on the corridors after 8am on vacant rooms. You really should be out of bed by then - go enjoy Florence! The buffet breakfast was excellent. The staff coped well when the place was full. We saw only one homeless person (well behaved too) near the hotel through the week - hardly a problem. Italy is a country of many smokers - there is bound to be one crafty smoker among the hotel staff. Italians cannot smoke in restaurants or bars anymore so this is not a problem. I don't smoke but I think a little more tolerance & appreciation of the fact that you are in a different country with a whole different culture is needed. Relax & enjoy.

“Convenient, lovely room but disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 June 2008

We had asked for a triple room and were impressed by the size of the accomodation (with balcony) and a shower room AND bathroom, but the amenities advertised were not available, such as the restaurant on any night, or the piano bar only staffed on the one night we asked at reception if it was available. the phone had to be replaced eventually as it did not work, and none of the plugs were conventional fittings even with the adaptor from reception. The rooms to the front of the hotel were exceptionally noisy due to the bus stops outside, and the waste bins being constantly used during the night. With no double glazing it was impossible to get a good nights sleep.
Otherwise a good central hotel.

“Ewwwwwwwwwwww”

Dilapidated hotel. Rude staff. Elevators broken. Hot water knob didn't work. TV didn't come on. Carpets filthy. Outer bedding looked unwashed. Housekeeping having lengthy arguments in the hallway outside your door. Breakfast--found a hair in food Ew. Bar lacked essentials and often not staffed. View from room was the metal security grates like they pull down at the mall to close up shop. This hotel, which will never be updated because of the money it generates as is, needs one thing: a match. Florence was lovely. Stay elsewhere.
