The hotel was in a great location, our room was decent (and clean). I just have a few complaints. First of all, we pretty much got upgraded at every hotel (the second we said we were on our honeymoon) and they were the only ones who didn't. So we had two (separated) single beds in our room. Not comfy, if you know what I mean.

Second of all, the concierge (the older gentleman) was incredibly rude. On our first day there, we came back to our hotel early (to pass out, thanks to jet lag) and forgot to put the "do not disturb" sign up on our door. The chambermaid walked in, apologized and the concierge called us two minutes later -- asking if we could vacate our room so that they could clean. How about no? He didn't like that too much.

I asked to borrow the adapter and got it from the female concierge, signed a card and used it. Upon returning it, the male concierge curtly asked me if I provided a deposit and was annoyed when I said I didn't (it's an adapter for Pete's sakes). And I did ask that same concierge to get train tickets for us (from Florence to Rome) and he (again) got annoyed when his female co-worker forgot to request the $5 service charge fee (when we picked up the tickets). I knew we had to pay it, I was going to take care of it later.

The breakfast was pretty decent, but nothing really to rave about.

I'm a bit bewildered by the negative reviews of this hotel. My wife and I stayed there for 7 nights in early July and it really added to a tremendous Florence experience. I guess you get what you ask and pay for. We reserved a superior room and asked for an upper floor with river views. The room was very large, very clean and on the second floor - not exactly what I'd consider to be upper. But opening the window shutters to the view across the Arno to the hills and the Piazza Michaelangelo was magic. The view alone made the price worthwhile (it compared favourably with other prices anyway). The hotel is on a busy road alongside the Arno but the rooms are well insulated both from the outside and from other rooms. So there wasn't a problem with noise. Our room was large by any standards, as was the bathroom. And there's plenty of closet space. I think that like the hotel overall, the rooms have a look of slightly faded elegance. To us it added to the charm, but perhaps that's not for everyone. But the rooms are very well serviced, the bathroom spotless, with constantly renewed towels etc.
There's a wonderful lounge and bar area near the lobby - a great place to have a drink and relax later in the day, with large couches and free nibbles. The porters and bar staff are very friendly and helpful, the concierge and desk staff perhaps more business-like but still very efficient and prompt to answer requests. My only complaint is that the restaurant is very expensive, with a surly waiter to match - hence its emptiness most nights. But there's a vast continental breakfast on offer in the mornings with different (friendly) staff. It's a great way to start the day. If you do want to save money on food in the evening there are several decent restaurants a short walk away. And there's a little shop down a few steps just to the right of the hotel entrance that sells bottles of beer and wine. The owner and his wife are happy to uncork the wine for you to take back into the hotel.
The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the Uffizi and Ponte Vecchio, and only a few minutes more to the Duomo. The Santa Croce is just around the corner. So I can't understand comments about its distance from the centre. And it's such a better location than most of the noisy hotels in the narrow streets of the old city.
Despite the slightly dated appearance of parts of the Lucchesi this is still a good 4* star hotel and very good value. We hope we'll be back.

This is a beautiful older hotel which is perfectly situated for walking to see various sites. Ask for a balcony! The staff is very helpful and the breakfast which is served in the hotel restaurant is outstanding.

The hotel may have rooms with lovely views but my poor colleagues ended up in tiny rooms virtually dark because the windows faced an internal shaft with no daylight that overlooked the room on opposite side. Apparently hotel was full, but a cheapskate way of filling rooms. Can only guess those paying more on rack rate get preference?
