“A hidden gem in Florence”

Formerly a convent, this ancient building is in a superb position - juxtaposed between the station and the Duomo! Stayed four nights in March. A lovely room, with beautifully painted furniture - very romantic. The public areas are bright and cheery, and room service breakfast is fantastic.
Many restaurants and sites of interest within walking distance nearby, such as Medici Chapel, San Lorenzo, Duomo and Uffizzi.
I would definitely stay there again.

“Handy location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Stayed four nights in January. Location is excellent, within easy walking distance from the main train and bus station. The Via Nazionale is a busy road but I was never bothered by the noise once in my room. From the hotel there are two supermarkets along the Via Nazionale, also turn left and then take a right and you are right in the heart of the San Lorenzo open market area. Really easy walking access to the Duomo and the main sites.

My room was located on the second floor and it was a rather complicated way to reach it, having to cross passageways and then negotiate a staircase, so if you have heavy luggage you will need the porter or else ask for a more accessible room. The room was of medium size, clean, and a decent bathroom and small shower cubicle and a bidet. My room did not have a safe and the cupboard was a bit small. Flat screen TV with a few english channels and TV5 (french channel) in addition to the home italian channels.

Wifi is not free but I would say reasonable at 8 euros for 24 hours, and it worked well. My deal came with breakfast which was quite good: sicilian blood orange juice, toasts, rolls, ham and cold cuts, cheese, spreads, bacon, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit including kiwi fruit, cherry tomatoes, cereals, coffee and tea.

There is a wonderful restaurant just round the corner, Il Brincello just two blocks down from the hotel along the Via Nazionale. Bookings are essential and I was turned away the first night I tried to get in. In any case customers staying at the hotel who patronise the restaurant just next to the hotel get free cover charge and free water, which is easily a savings of 5 euros. The food there too is more than decent and I had a wonderful Bisteccia alla Fiorentina for one.

Room Tip: Mind the steps! If you have luggage try to get a room closer to the lifts.

“Nice hotel in great location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

I have stayed at this hotel several times and it has met my expectations every time. It is a 5 minute walk to the train station and probably about the same to the Duomo. There are some decent restaurants near by as well. The staff is very nice and always willing to give a great dinner recommendation. As for the room, I like that it has the classic Florentine feel to it. Each room is a little different. The room and hotel is clean and comfortable. The breakfast is average and just enough to get ready for a great day of sightseeing.

“Really handy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

Stayed 3 nights in October, and thought the room was quite dark, ie not enough lights in the room, very hard to read a book in bed. The bathroom was clean and serviced every day as were the sheets on the bed. The hotel was really very handy to the rail station and also to the Duomo and even the markets which were right in the next street. Everything you really want to see was within walking distance. We took a bus to the hilltop where David's replica overlooks the city and walked back seeing the Ponte Vecchio, Galleria Uffizi, Palazzo della Signoria, Baptistry, Cathedral, Palazzo Pitti, Palazzo del Bargello, and the Santa Croce.
The staff at the hotel we found were friendly and helpful, recommending good restaurants nearby, and also tours that could be taken while in Florence. The breakfast offered was adequate, that is, I didn't need anything else to eat. Although chocolate croissants do nothing for me at breakfast. One thing I found really strange was that there were a lot of different levels on the same floor. Instead of walking your suitcase on a level floor, you have to carry your cases up and down 3 or 4 steps on the same landing. Be wary if you're travelling by car, because if you want to park the car it's going to cost you 25 euros per night. Overall I couldn't say the Atlantic Palace was 1 of my top 5 hotels but I couldn't fault the cleanliness and the efficiency of the staff. Would have given a better score had there been more lights in the room, and if the passageway had been level.
