“Wonderful hotel”

This hotel was just wonderful. Overlooking the Arno River. My husband and I stayed here for several nights. The room was beautiful. Nicely decorated. Comfortable. There is an elevator. The staff were all professional, gracious, and accomodating. The breakfast buffet was simply delicious. Fresh fruit, meats, yogurt, breads, fresh juice, cappucinos.... Perfect. We walked everywhere from this hotel. Close enough to the train station, nice restaurants and shopping. Highly recommend.

“A real, romantic 4-star experience.”

My wife and I stayed two nights here during our honeymoon and had a wonderful time in our Mini-Suite at the Hotel Principe. We thought the décor was beautiful, the location was excellent, and the quality of service was representative of what a 4-star hotel should be.

Upon arrival we were greeted kindly and given the opportunity to inspect and choose between two gorgeous rooms, each with a different view. The staff was extremely helpful and accomodating in many different ways: They carried our luggage to and from the room, gave us an umbrella to use on a rainy day, and continually asked if there was anything they could do to make our stay more pleasurable.

The breakfast was good -- the usual continental fare plus made-to-order omelettes, and many beverage choices. Additionally, they offered free Wifi and even the use of their own computer.

The location on the Arno River is beautiful and close enough to most major tourist attractions (Duomo, Uffizi, etc.) to be walkable in about 10 minutes. It is also only a short taxi ride to the S.M. Novella train station.

We had an excellent time and will recommend this hotel to our friends and family. We couldn't have asked for more...

Room Tip: Rooms in the front of the hotel have a beautiful view. Our mini-suite included a balcony, very large...

“Great Location but has some issues”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

It's in a great location right along the river with a great rooftop terrance with 360 views of the city. Our room was at the back of the building with a balcony that faced the hills and city. The room was a bit small so the balcony helped out alot. The air conditioner was terrible and was shut off in the middle of the night. But they did offer free wifi, slippers, and a great breakfast.

“Great choice for our family in Florence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

We recently stayed at the Hotel Principe with our 3 children aged 13, 10, and 8 as well as our labradoodle. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

The hotel location is great. It is by the Arno river and a short walk from the more touristy attractions. The area was fairly quiet with little traffic. We drove to Florence, and the hotel parking couldn't be easier! They have a lot in the garden behind the hotel. It is spacious and safe. The parking alone is worth the stay at this hotel, but there was much more we loved about our stay.

The staff was friendly and very helpful. I communicated via email prior to our stay and they were responsive, providing very accurate information about the rooms and availability. We had concerns about requiring two rooms and our proximity to our children. Upon arrival, the rooms were exactly as described and more than met our needs. The website is well designed and includes directions on how to reach the hotel. The staff continued to provide helpful information throughout our stay in regards to directions, shopping, and restaurants. They knew us on sight and had our keys ready whenever we entered the hotel. Breakfast was as described. The hotel goes beyond the typical continental breakfast by offering eggs cooked to order, which my family thoroughly enjoyed.

There are only 20 rooms in the hotel and it is family owned. It is a beautiful old home furnished with antiques. The rooms were spacious. As with older hotels, the bathrooms weren't as modern as a newer hotel, but the charm more than compensated for the lack of modern bathroom amenities. The bed looked older and not as plush as some luxury hotels, but it ended up being quite comfortable. As indicated above, we received two rooms across the hall from each other. My husband and I had a double with a fairly small bathroom. The children had a huge triple room. The spare bed was very comfortable for my oldest child. Their bathroom was enormous. it was probably the size of a small, single European hotel room. Both rooms overlooked the beautiful garden in the back, which is a hidden charm within Florence. The hotel staff also suggested that we take advantage of the rooftop terrace, which provided beautiful views of Florence, including the Duomo Dome and the Arno River. We enjoyed some drinks and took a few photographs. If you stay at the hotel, definitely check out this hidden feature! We felt safe enough in the hotel that we left our door unlocked at night so that the children could easily reach us if there was an issue. We had the feeling that we were staying at a large B&B.

We would definitely return to this hotel and recommend it to our friends and family.
