We recently stayed at the Hotel Principe with our 3 children aged 13, 10, and 8 as well as our labradoodle. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.
The hotel location is great. It is by the Arno river and a short walk from the more touristy attractions. The area was fairly quiet with little traffic. We drove to Florence, and the hotel parking couldn't be easier! They have a lot in the garden behind the hotel. It is spacious and safe. The parking alone is worth the stay at this hotel, but there was much more we loved about our stay.
The staff was friendly and very helpful. I communicated via email prior to our stay and they were responsive, providing very accurate information about the rooms and availability. We had concerns about requiring two rooms and our proximity to our children. Upon arrival, the rooms were exactly as described and more than met our needs. The website is well designed and includes directions on how to reach the hotel. The staff continued to provide helpful information throughout our stay in regards to directions, shopping, and restaurants. They knew us on sight and had our keys ready whenever we entered the hotel. Breakfast was as described. The hotel goes beyond the typical continental breakfast by offering eggs cooked to order, which my family thoroughly enjoyed.
There are only 20 rooms in the hotel and it is family owned. It is a beautiful old home furnished with antiques. The rooms were spacious. As with older hotels, the bathrooms weren't as modern as a newer hotel, but the charm more than compensated for the lack of modern bathroom amenities. The bed looked older and not as plush as some luxury hotels, but it ended up being quite comfortable. As indicated above, we received two rooms across the hall from each other. My husband and I had a double with a fairly small bathroom. The children had a huge triple room. The spare bed was very comfortable for my oldest child. Their bathroom was enormous. it was probably the size of a small, single European hotel room. Both rooms overlooked the beautiful garden in the back, which is a hidden charm within Florence. The hotel staff also suggested that we take advantage of the rooftop terrace, which provided beautiful views of Florence, including the Duomo Dome and the Arno River. We enjoyed some drinks and took a few photographs. If you stay at the hotel, definitely check out this hidden feature! We felt safe enough in the hotel that we left our door unlocked at night so that the children could easily reach us if there was an issue. We had the feeling that we were staying at a large B&B.
We would definitely return to this hotel and recommend it to our friends and family.
