“Loved Rondini, wish it was closer but you can't have that view otherwise!”

Ok- I went here with my husband, best friend and her husband in Sept 2007 (that date wasn't an option so I can't choose that). I never got around to my review but got nostalgic and had to chime in my opinion when I saw some of these reviews!

The hotel is like a big bed and breakfast- old style but charming. The keys are even old fashioned! The views are amazing and breakfast was a simple spread but we all enjoyed it. It wasn't amazing but the view more than made up for it. Being so far made for an adventure getting back to the hotel one night when we got off the bus at the wrong stop on the unlit road! totally our fault- there are 2 stops that access the hotel- during the day it's fine but they close one gate at night. Location was the only reason I might only stay here a night or 2 if we make it back to Florence.

The owner did come across as curt but I think she just comes across that way. We spent some time petting the dogs and got to chat with her- talked about her trips to India on her holidays as my husband and best friend are from there, then talked about Spain as the other husband is from there! I don't remember if she had been to the US! I'm always the outsider! ;-) She warmed up a bit there but she's not a gushing person by any means. I think the fact that she's not WARM is making her seem MEAN, I wouldn't say that. I can imagine tourists get annoying! We found customer service in Italy as a whole lacking- she wasn't any better or worse than most!

The front desk did help up plan our few days there and they helped get us reservations as a very awesome and small restaurant. It was AMAZING food and we felt so lucky to get in. Our tour book said it booked fast. They were right.

The grounds are cool-they even have a HELIPAD!! Clearly showing some wear though but I actually liked that. The pool looked inviting anyway but we didn't go. We were encouraged to walk up to the owners personal house to take pictures - the statue in their pamplet pics is up there. I don't have a problem with their service at all- I prefered it to a sterile chain hotel any day- I can stay at the Holiday Inn at home. Unless standards have really fallen THAT much since we were there I say give Rondini a chance. We'd love to go back!! I was trying to get my friend to elope and have her wedding there!!

“Great place with amazing views of florence.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2010

We stayed with our one year old. The villa is located on the hills above Florence. Great views of the city with a relaxing atmosphere. The whole place is filled with olive trees and the swimming pool is great.
The rooms are old style but comfortable. I suggest to eat out.
We would go back if we come back to Florence.

“contemptuous and unapologetic”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2009

rude, extremely patronizing management plus horrible location, rooms look like a former hospice, really creepy place. They sent us to another villa, did not give us breakfast, lights, heating system, hot water kept cutting out in the middle of winter. Water came out brown out of the tap (see pictures attached). all along we did not receive a single apology...
Ideal if you want to be ripped off

“Stunning setting, friendly welcoming staff, comfortable old style charm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2009

This villa is lovely and the staff are very welcoming (surprised by other reviews that say otherwise! owner having a bad day perhaps??). We only stayed here for one night, we were visiting for a friend's wedding at a near-by villa. I gather there was another wedding the night we were there at Rondini - we saw many people at breakfast the next morning looking as much the worse for wear as we did! The room we stayed in was full of lovely old style charm and comfortable and well appointed - also quite spacious. The villa is up the hill from the main town so the views are incredible. We were not there for the evening as we were at the wedding - but had breakfast and lunch on the following day. Breakfast was included in our rate and to be honest was a bit substandard - a bit of fruit and some not great quality breads - they let themselves down here a bit I'm sorry to say. Lunch however was very good indeed - we ordered a la carte - we took a shrimp and artichoke risotto and the game pasta - both dishes were very good indeed.
We did use the swimming pool also on the morning we left. Checkout is quite early there but we begged for an extension and got it. They are also perfectly happy for guests to continue to use the pool after checkout provided that you take your luggage out of the room. At the pool there is a snack bar, towel rental and good showers and changing room so it is easy to lounge there and shower and change before heading off. There were also signs pointing to a tennis court, but we were not in shape to check this out!
Recommended for a romantic break and the views simply cannot be beaten!

“Avoid like the plague”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2009

Went there for a romantic trip with my boyfriend. The pictures looked good and I have to confess the pictures I took persuade you the place wasn't that bad. WRONG! The service is curt, the owner treats you like something she stood in and so many people got infections from the pool whilst we were there that it had to be shut down.
The views are beautiful but if you want charm, a smile at breakfast and sense of self worth, stay elsewhere!
