“Romantic and charming Villa”

Wonderful staff, great views, amazing ambiance, super restaurant. If you love antiques and hotels with charm, this is the place for you. Woderfully romantic setting with great views high above Florence in the middle of olive groves - they even make and sell their own oil from their vinyard. Rooms with character and beautiful old furniture and art work. It was like staying in a museum. Staff was kind and very helpful. They even set up museum tours, etc. to help us avoid the lines to view all the artwork down town. Short busride to and from downtown Florence. I will stay here again. If you want a cookie cutter modern room, then find a Holiday Inn. But if you are looking for a romantic retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city, high above the smog and traffic, this is the place to create memories. This world travelling couple is very satisfied.

Room Tip: Eat at the local "snack bars" for local quisine and family run delicacies. Avoid the over...

“Avoid this place”

Photos on web site were charming. We were, however, allocated an annexe that was dusty, sadly neglected and not even a chair to sit on inside or out. Roller blinds at the windows were broken and pinned up so as large spaces of windows were not covered. They were also moth eaten and dirty. Being on the ground floor this was somewhat unsettling. There was another room adjoing and the walls so thin that the TV on in this next room kept us awake well after midnight. We had to drive to the main part of the Villa where the restaurant was located despite the fact that we had chosen this place so that we did not have to drive the car after dinner.
We arrived late afternoon and went to the pool. The pool side was littered with garbage and there were no views since olive trees had not been pruned in years... leaves had not been raked up and altogether it was a dump.

“fresh memories”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2011

We stayed there as a couple just last week - between 16-22 of July. I've just found the hotel card requesting to leave my feedback at this website and decided to do so.
That was our second trip to Italy and during this vacation Villa Le Rondini was the last place out of three locations (the other two were at the Garda Lake before we moved to Florence).
I can't disagree with the previous comments on the physical condition of the Villa - both inside and outside such as the near pool area are indeed not showing much signs of care. However, we both found it really charming. When we just entered our room (#6 in the main building) we started joking that it feels like coming to "the granny's countryhouse".
I found that this location is sometimes described here at Tripadvisor as having dilapidated state.
In my understanding, "dilapidated" has more positive meaning attached to it than the negative one - if applied to the Villa. Unlike many other places, this one definitely has the soul.

Location:
I would say it's perfectly located if you have a car. Even though we didn't have one, we found no problem to walk to the bus stop. When you return from the city centre, the bus stop is quite far away - between 10 - 15 minutes walk. But when you go out you can use the other bus stop which is almost half the way (beware that the bus return path is a bit different). That was the reason why we missed our stop when getting back to villa first time.
That location has its benefits and we enjoyed waking up early in the mornings along with the sounds of birds in the garden just in front of our balcony.

We had breakfast and dinner at Villa Le Rondini.
Breakfast:
very simple, in fact I was missing some scrambed eggs each morning. There's some room for improvement here, taking into account the room rates are not so cheap.
Dinner:
Some days it was simply great. We enjoyed the grilled fish courses the most. The other days it was still good, but simply not that great to remember it the next day. Anyway, it was up to our expectations.
We had to pay for the drinks and wine was my main choice for drinks. The downside though was that 16.00 euro per bottle for a plain young Toscana "house wine" is a bit too high, to my taste.

Internet wi-fi spot:
it's free, but it's available only on the ground floor of the Villa. Signal quality is not strong enough though, but the groundfloor area is a nice and cosy place to hang around even when you get offline:). By the way, you can find some book to read there too - and you can borrow one for your stay. Not a big choice of titles/authers, but I really appreciated it after realising that I don't have anything to read in my luggage.

Villas' personnel:
Just don't expect them to be the same style as in many faceless business trip hotels . They are more human here but at the same time eager to help/advise.

I really can't agree with people advising others to keep out of this place.
I would rather recommend it to my friends and colleagues.

“Please listen to me and don't stay here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2011

I do not usually write reviews on hotels or anything else for that matter but I feel it is my duty to warn people about this place. I don't mind a bit of 'old world charm' but this place is just run down and in need of a major facelift. We stayed in one of the villas and it was a ten minute walk to our room from reception. The room was clean and had a nice view but was bad value for money, really dated and drab. The pool area is delapidated like the rest of the place and the breakfast unedible. It is also miles from Florence and there is nothing local, no restaurants, shop, nada. This place really isn't a nice place to stay. Stay in Florence. The lady who owns it could do with some hospitality training too, I didn't realise it was possible to huff and puff so much.

“Loved Rondini, wish it was closer but you can't have that view otherwise!”

Ok- I went here with my husband, best friend and her husband in Sept 2007 (that date wasn't an option so I can't choose that). I never got around to my review but got nostalgic and had to chime in my opinion when I saw some of these reviews!

The hotel is like a big bed and breakfast- old style but charming. The keys are even old fashioned! The views are amazing and breakfast was a simple spread but we all enjoyed it. It wasn't amazing but the view more than made up for it. Being so far made for an adventure getting back to the hotel one night when we got off the bus at the wrong stop on the unlit road! totally our fault- there are 2 stops that access the hotel- during the day it's fine but they close one gate at night. Location was the only reason I might only stay here a night or 2 if we make it back to Florence.

The owner did come across as curt but I think she just comes across that way. We spent some time petting the dogs and got to chat with her- talked about her trips to India on her holidays as my husband and best friend are from there, then talked about Spain as the other husband is from there! I don't remember if she had been to the US! I'm always the outsider! ;-) She warmed up a bit there but she's not a gushing person by any means. I think the fact that she's not WARM is making her seem MEAN, I wouldn't say that. I can imagine tourists get annoying! We found customer service in Italy as a whole lacking- she wasn't any better or worse than most!

The front desk did help up plan our few days there and they helped get us reservations as a very awesome and small restaurant. It was AMAZING food and we felt so lucky to get in. Our tour book said it booked fast. They were right.

The grounds are cool-they even have a HELIPAD!! Clearly showing some wear though but I actually liked that. The pool looked inviting anyway but we didn't go. We were encouraged to walk up to the owners personal house to take pictures - the statue in their pamplet pics is up there. I don't have a problem with their service at all- I prefered it to a sterile chain hotel any day- I can stay at the Holiday Inn at home. Unless standards have really fallen THAT much since we were there I say give Rondini a chance. We'd love to go back!! I was trying to get my friend to elope and have her wedding there!!
