Just returned from a wonderful 10 day trip to Italy, which included a 2 night stay at the Monna Lisa. I was hoping for an elegant, quiet hotel with lovely gardens, within walking distance to all major sights, and that is exactly what I found. The hotel is located on a very narrow, almost medieval street and is rather plain on the outside. It can be hard to find - look for several bright flags placed strategically above the entrance. However, once through the heavy double wooden doors, you enter into the world of a refined, antique filled former palazzo, with peaceful gardens that inspire a true Italian "old world" atmosphere. One can sit outside anytime (especially enjoyable for breakfast or evening drinks) and experience a peaceful serenity devoid of the hustle and bustle of downtown Florence just a few blocks away. Our twin room was located on the ground floor, facing the gardens. Both the room and bath were extremely generous, the largest and best on our trip. Very quiet and comfortable for sleeping - I especially enjoyed waking to the distant church bells and chirping birds that made me feel I was in one of the small hillside towns of Tuscany. Everything was extremely clean and well maintained. Breakfast was excellent in variety and quality - servers do take hot beverage orders. Staff is professional and very helpful in providing directions and dinner recommendations. Good shopping is nearby, little boutiques along the Borgo degli Albizi/Via del Corso, which we would take whenever walking to the city /tourist center. We also had an outstanding, gourmet style dinner at "Gaston", a small restaurant located about 5 mins away. My reasons for not awarding 5 stars is that internet service was not free, and our room airconditioner was not working properly. It didn't really matter, as it was cool enough to open the windows and simply close the heavy wooden shutters for sleeping at night. I reported it when checking out. For me staying here was very enjoyable, and I would definitely stay here again.
