Typically we spend little time in a hotel room, besides sleeping and breakfast. Italian hotel breakfasts are impossible to resist, and theirs did not disappoint. After each of 4 days roaming the streets, shops and museums of Florence we looked forward to settling into our apartment sized room. Great bed and pillows and linens. Excellent spacious bathrooms - we had TWO - near-instant hot water, plenty of thick towels and collectible bathing products. The feeling inside is comfortably elegant - not formal - only the staff wore ties and jackets. Decor in the style of early 1900's, but solid, comfortable. . They were remodeling some rooms, but we never heard or felt any evidence of the work.
Location is superb. Auto traffic, other than taxis, is not permitted in the center of Florence, and this hotel is just inside the pedestrian zone. Out the door to the left and cross the alley to reach Cantinetta Antinori for an excellent meal (M-F) and their amazing Antinori wines. (very reasonable prices for great food and wine. We paid more for a LOT less elsewhere). Two minutes more to the left is the train station. If you turned right out of the hotel, you are on Florence's most elegant shopping street, Tournabouni. No cars or scooters to dodge. Walk that way one block and turn left to reach Piazza da la Republica. Continue to reach...everything. Its all right there!
The hotel staff are remarkably courteous and eager to help. Wifi only in the lobby area. Ethernet cabling in the room. In winter the Italian hotels tend to be very warm, and this one follows that trend. We turned the heat off and opened windows, in December, before settling into bed.
Very easy to get to the hotel by Taxi. I don't know if there's train service from FLR to the center. Probably bus, but we didn't bother. After arriving from SFO we craved a bed
When the time came to move on we rented a car from Hertz, a few blocks away, to drive to Lucca, and then to Verona. Did not need a car in Florence. .
