“Mosquitos, no insulation/heating, paper thin walls, indifferent service.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2009

I was surprised to see so many positive review of this place - it seems we had bad luck with our rooms and rated as the worst accommodation we stayed at in Italy.

The first night we stayed in room 55. It's an outdoor cabin next to the garden. It had a serious mosquito problem being on the ground floor we must have killed half a dozen after paranoid hunting and still got bitten even with the repellent plugged in and hiding under the covers. There was no heating or insulation and thus got very cold at night (autumn). The blankets, chairs and floors were grubby. We tried to beg the night staff for a heater or pay more money to move inside with an indifferent reception. Don't accept this room!

The second night we tried asking again and the owner was more receptive to a shift in rooms. We moved to another very small room (39) which still had no heating but at least the mosquitos were not so much of an issue. The walls were paper thin so the neighbouring Ariele guests talking and flushing trying to fix their loo at 2 am realized that we could indeed hear their activities after flushing our loo and quietened up! I am also not really a fan of open showers with out a cubicle. Only having a curtain (no shower tray or cubicle) gets all the other stuff wet in the bathroom. The bathroom is very small but functions.

Positive points - the location is about 10-15min to the edge of the city, it has breakfast included (fairly standard stuff). They also let us keep our bags there when were travelled to another city for 2 nights.

Other people had more positive experiences in larger rooms - perhaps if you really want to stay here it's best to have a look in the room before you accept (and avoid the above rooms!)

“Very Nice Week At The Ariele Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2009

My husband and I stayed at the Ariele Hotel for 6 nights and really were quite pleased with all aspects of our stay. Its a lovely older builder very traditionally decorated, very old world Italian feel. They have a cozy sitting room just outside the main dining room where breakfast is served and an outdoor garden patio. The garden patio was very nice to sit in and relax in the afternoon with a drink after walking around Florence all day.

The hotel has vending machines with cold bottled waters, sodas, and beer, and snacks. They also have a more formal bar set-up for mixed drinks which they gladly will assist you with and let you sign it to your room. They as well provide internet access via a computer in the lobby area.

I really liked the hotel location, which was 1 block in from the Arno River and about 5 blocks from the Ponte Vecchio. Walking to the sights everyday was really not a big deal, and the walk along the river is gorgeous.

The breakfast they provide is decent....croissants, cereals, yougrts, cheeses, nothing too fancy, but the coffee was great! Machine dispensed, but really wonderful!

I would for sure stay here again and would suggest this hotel to any travelers to Firenze!

“Excellent value quiet hotel a short walk from the centre of Florence”

Found the hotel on Hotels.com at excellent rate for 3 night stay B&B. Clean and friendly with a very pleasant walk into the centre for all attractions.

“Poor service from desk personnel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2009

We booked through Expedia.com and spent 3 nights here in June, 2009. The hotel was actually quite nice and the breakfast buffet was very substantial. I asked the hotel desk if we could reserve a ticket to see Michelangelo's "David" and he told me it would be impossible on such short notice. We happened to be taking another tour that day (Taste Florence) and our wonderful guide was able to call and get us a reservation to see "David" for later that day. Additionally, we had problems in our room with the air conditioner - it spit black water and ice chunks out onto one of the beds. We reported it to the desk and it was supposedly taken care of. During the night it again started dripping water on us, and we reported it again the next day. They told us not to use the air conditioner (in the heat of an Italian summer!) I lodged a complaint with Expedia.com asking for a partial refund, but had to wait until returning to the USA since these matters are done by telephone. Expedia contacted Hotel Ariele and they lied and said there were no complaints made about air conditioners in June. The experience left me with a bad feeling about the hotel, and even though the accommodations were adequate and I could forgive a malfunctioning air conditioner, the poor service from the desk personnel is what stands out for me, and I therefore wouldn't recommend this hotel to a friend.

“Ideal Base for Florence”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2009

We stayed at this hotel while visiting Florence. It is ideally located about 10-15 minutes walk along the river from the Uffizi Gallery. The immediate area is quiet, away from the hustle and noise of the city centre. We stayed in a family room on the ground floor. It was very comfortable and spacious, which suited our needs, as our daughter uses a wheelchair. There is a step at the entrance to the hotel, however the reception staff are willing to help if any assistance is required. Breakfast was adequate but unimaginative. Some fresh fruit and natural yogurt would have been appreciated. The hotel has a garden area which offered a welcome reprieve after a long day of sightseeing. Overall I would gladly recommend this hotel; it is reasonably priced, clean, comfortable and quiet.
