“Charming room, charming hosts ...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2010 via mobile

... Writing this in the departure queue at Rome Airport, since we want to capture the loveliness that is Alberghinon and host(ess) Letizia while the memory's fresh. All that others have said is true: Letizia goes the extra mile and beyond to make one's stay special: booking ahead at the Uffizi, recommending top quality restaurants and helping out by mobile phone when we couldn't find a bus stop? All part of the service. Beautiful room, v quiet and elegantly furnished. Bit of a walk into town but so whatM stay there and enjoy Florence!

“The friendliest welcome in Italy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2009

We stayed here for 4 nights in September, and throughout our three week travels all over Italy, this was the warmest welcome we got by far.
The owner (Leitizia?), was so friendly and helpful upon arrival. We were sat down, and given a map, with all the points of interest all over Florence marked down for us, asking us what we were interested in, and basically helping us plan for the whole trip. She suggested restaurants, made museum bookings for us (The Uffizi in particular- which means you don't have to que), and really just helped us find our way. It sounds simple enough, but we didn't experience anywhere near this type of service in comparable priced accomadation elsewhere.

As for the B&B itself. The location was very practical for us, as we were able to walk from the train station (with heavy bags), and on the way back, to the main street where all the car rental places were. The location itself is in the opposite direction from the train station from the city centre and the main sights, so you are faced with a good 10/15minute walk to the heart of the city. This is fine, but it is tiring at the end of a hard days sightseeing though. Its only 50m from a bus stop though, which you can use (and we did). It's located on a residential street, away from the tourist hub, but we were pointed to some nearby restaurants, and must say everyone that was recommended to us was excellent!

The rooms themselves are fine, if not a little dark. Very clean. We overlooked the back garden which was nice, and probably a bit quieter than if you'd looked out the front (although it is on a very quiet road). The breakfast was very basic, and provided in the room. Cereal and a pastry and a carton of juice.

All in all, in hindsight it may have been better for us to have had a more central location, but given the service we got, and the value for money we felt we received, I give this place the thumbs up.

“Letizia is the best host a traveller in Florence could have!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2009

Definitely, the best thing about the Alberghino is its charming owner, Letizia. She will make you feel at home, give you the best tipa regarding restaurants, nightlife, shops, and even how to get to other nearby towns by car!
The rooms are nicely decorated and spacious, though they could have a nicer light during the day.
The only thing I would change about the Alberghino is breakfast: it is already served from the night before (inside the bedroom) and for that reason it is not freshly baked. But considering everything else, forget breakfast and enjoy Florence and this cozy bed & breakfast!

“It's Good to be Pleasantly Surprised”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 June 2009

Booking a hotel on the internet is like going out on a blind date-- it's a hit or miss experience. Alberghino B&B was a hit... 18th century building... high ceilings with frescoes... tastefully updated... very close to Santa Maria Novella station... and with a gracious owner, Letizia, who pays great attention to detail and makes you feel like you're her personal guests.

“wonderful!”

We stayed at the Alberghino B&B in Florence a few weeks ago and discovered it quite by chance. Upon arrival, the Alberghino Bed & Breakfast is very unassuming with an anonymous facade that is opaque in its simplicity. In fact one would think you've arrived "home" or at best, visiting friends - which is what makes L'Alberghino so very special! It is home! And it feels just like you’re visiting friends. In fact referring to the Alberghino as a B&B does not do it any justice at all.

Each one of the Alberghino's rooms has its own theme and its own individual character. Ours was called the Duck Room due to the fact that a gorgeous Duck painting hangs over the sofa that doubles as an extra bed - however one could have easily called it the Fresco Ceiling Room, or the massive comfy bed with abundant pillows & cushions room! Each room has so much of so much I sometimes wonder how the charming owners of the Alberghino decided on the names. Which brings me to the unique hospitality extended by Letizia.

A more charming lady I have yet to meet. She greets each and every one of her guests like as though they were long lost friends who have come to visit – and in fact whilst there I noticed that most were in fact returning guests who knew their way around much better than I did.

The Alberghino offers more than one would expect from a B&B. The rooms are not merely spacious, they are huge – yet they are warm and inviting. The furnishings and decorations are beautiful and mostly antiques, yet the comforts offered in all rooms are fully functional and new. Our room had facilities for making typical Italian espresso & cappuccino, together with tea and snacks. We even had cereal and milk available for breakfast, and parmeggiano cheese and biscuits which I snacked on constantly. This in addition to the obligatory mini bar one finds in all large hotels. The Color TV has a good selection of local and foreign stations so when we returned from our visits to the monuments, museums and art galleries which are all located in the vicinity of L’Alberghino, we could always kick off our shoes and relax with a cuppa whilst catching up on news from the rest of the world.

L’Alberghino offers the best of both worlds. Small in size, but grand in ambiance. Spacious rooms but warm and cosy, with all the amenities necessary for the convenience of the discerning traveler.

I would recommend this amazing gem of a bed and breakfast to anyone traveling to Pisa or Florence.
