What a wonderful place! The service was outstanding, the rooms had amazing details and the grounds were beautiful. The house is truly stunning, eventhough it is located close to the road. We could not have asked for more hospitality. The house was ours - literally. We were the only guests (there were six of us) and they treated us perfectly. The day we arrived, the kitchen was closed so we purchased some local fare at the co-op. The Poggio opened their wine cellar to us, set a beautiful long table in the dining room by the fire with candles, etc. and let us be. It was truely magical and I would recommend visiting the Poggio anytime you want a perfectly serene setting.

Italy is a magical country and maybe the best place in the world for a great vacation. I've been to Tuscany before for the sights and the food. This was the first time though in Cortona and the Poggio Sant' Angelo proved the perfect place to stay. A lovely country inn situated just right to serve as the ideal launching pad to see the region. Stayed in the Lauro room, in the attic under the eaves. Quiet, clean and a great bathroom and shower. It was too chilly for the pool but I enjoyed sitting outside to smoke my cigars. (There are various little nooks and crannies for sitting and enjoying the fresh air and trees.)

But the best part was the food. Pleasant breakfasts outside started each day. One free dinner was included in the price but the food is so good -- in a region where bad food must be impossible to get -- that we went back for dinner twice more that week. From there it was easy to visit Sienna and Perugia too. The staff was very helpful and attentive but left us alone when we didn't need any help.

Cortona itself is a magical walled city on a hill and the Poggio is only a few miles away. I look forward to going back and staying there again. Umbria is close by and I hope to get to Montepulciano next time for the wine.
