Landed at the Hotel Villa Kristina by chance--did not expect too much for the price, given the overall cachet of Taormina. The room size was adequateand it was cute in a kind of old-fashioned way.It had a rather strange walk-in closet on the outside wall next to the balcony, so lots of storage room if needed. Etna views were spectacular!
The bathroom left alot to be desired. The shower curtain was slimy and discolored--we asked to have it replaced but it was merely wiped down. Plastic shower curtains are not at all expensive so I cannot understand why this small issue could not be properly rectified. My creative boyfriend made the most of it by taking the curtain down and reversing it, clean side in!!
This is a tired older hotel--smelly carpet in the elevator, no ice available on request etc.
Some staff were friendly but others aloof and not always helpful.
I think the 3 star allocation is undeserved.,
This was our second visit to Taormina and we had to make repeat visits to a restaurant which is a hidden gem. I regret that I cannot recall he name of it but it is certainly easy to find and worthwhile to visit. Family owned, it features roasted chicken served with a delicious fragrant lemon sauce. The hot table has a good variety of homestyle foods and of course customized pizzas can be ordered. It appears to be frequented primarily by locals and this traveller always percieves that to be a good sign. The bonus is that it is very inexpensive, so check it out.
It is located on the side street immediately adjacent to the Porto Messina. Just walk westward up the hill to the second-last shop on your left. A few steps take you down into the little restaurant. You will love the food and the price!!
