The hotel itself is definitely beyond reproach - service is excellent, breakfast is good. Calm outside, clean inside. Some might mind the train that goes nearby but it's not too loud really. The beach is just adequate but not really a gem, still I enjoyed it and my friends even discovered a near-by restaurant (right on the beach) with some excellent (although expensive) food.
Now, as far as getting into town by foot, it gets a bit more complicated.. Walking to the cable car to get one up to Taormina tourist village involves walking on a very narrow strip alongside the main road where drivers speed up and cut corners easily, if one is not careful the trip may become the very last one ever. Bottom line: be VERY careful, get a bicyclist's red clip-on light or reflection strips to put on your clothes. There is a curve with a bit of a blind spot right next of the hotel - that one drivers LOVE to pass at 100+ km/h, so watch out for cars approaching and/or listen when you cannot see them (behind the curve).
Inhaling diesel fumes from cars on the road also adds up to the experience, although away from the road the air is amazingly clean.
