“Not bad, but be aware”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

The room furnishings are dated but clean and roomy (ours was a "superior double"). No in-room ammenities aside from a tiny TV (who cares?), a hair dryrer, soap, shampoo, towels, linens, pillows (xtra pillows and linens in the closet). A small balcony that provides a wonderful view overlooking Taoromina, the bay, and Etna. Free bus service takes you to the beach (3 pick-ups in the morning and 3 in the afternoon). The beach fee is 7 euro per person - this includes a welcoming fruit drink, an umbrella, towels if needed and a beach recliner. Breakfast was routine but enough to get you moving -- although a menu was offered once, I never saw it again after the first day. The price was very reasonable but as everyone has mentioned the STEPS can't be ignored! It's great exercise! (That's the nicest thing I can say). Not so much at 1:00 in the morning after a concert at the Teatro Greco, but hey... you can get a taxi if you need it. Also be aware the hotel itself is multi-tiered and there are a lot of steps inside it as well - this is NOT a handicap friendly hotel in any manner. To end on a good note, the price was very reasonable, the staff was very helpful, the beach was our second home and the food, wine and local population can't be beat - screw the steps! It's worth it!

“Don`t stay there”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 May 2011

The hotel is really run down, the food is bad and there is basically no service. I cannot recommend this hotel at all.

“only the view is value for money- the rest is not”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2010

The room was not very clean and the bed falling apart. The shower was so small you almost cannot enter and the shower handle was broken. The first evening there was no hot water at all. The breakfast was very poor and small- No glass was available in the room. Service was ok but nothing particular.

“Too far up too many steps from town”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2010

Villa Greta is up several hundred steep steps from the town. We struggled from the bus station with heavy cases. Apparantly there are buses which pass by the entrance, but only 6 per day. Because of the difficult access it's not feasable to keep popping back to the hotel & this dictates daily activity - you try to keep ascents to a minimum - and we're seasoned walkers. If you survive the ascent, the view is spectacular, but consider staying instead at Giardini Naxos, which has restaurants open, even in November, and regular buses to Taormina. Our room was a good size with a lovely view of Etna & the sea from the terrace (some rooms have balconies), but there were a number of maintenance issues - broken recliners, inoperable drawers, noisy extractor fan, eratic hot water, shower aimed at wall, not at user, hair dryer not working etc. Also note management do not approve of washing hung out to dry.

“stay here if you want to be bitten by bed bugs”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2010

stayed five nights. beautiful and stunning views of Mt etna and the area. Bathroom cleaned and bed made yet wet and drenched towels were not removed. Had bites on me on the 3rd night which i thought were mosquitos. a few more the 4th night. after the 5th night i had bites from my toes to my neck. Both legas and arms were covered. Butt also. After tubes of creams and anti hystamines, i was placed on antibiotics from my doctor. I would advise against staying here until a fumigation has taken place and you have signed details of that.
