“Hotel Villa Schuler - First Class 3 Star Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

From the moment we stepped into the Hotel Villa Schuler - a "miscast" 3 star hotel - we knew we were in for firsl class treatment. Never have we stayed at accommodations were the staff attention was so truly outstanding. Our room with the magnificent view - the comfortable bed - the perfect bathroom - the balcony where I put my feet up with my morning coffee on a silver tray - every detail - perfect. And then the outstanding staff - I had eaten something that did not agree with me and the staff were so accommodating, so friendly, their service was beyond compare. The location, the parking, the staff all provided great memories. In three weeks of travel, the Hotel Villa Schuler was the best of the best. They are a First Class Hotel which deserves more than 3 stars!

Room Tip: Choose a room on the water - well worth the extra cost - especially for early morning coffee.

“Great hotel!”

Stayed for 2 nights in late October and so not overly crowded, but still had excellent weather. Our room (25) was on the second floor and had a small balcony and view of the garden. Breakfast was wonderful on a terrace overlooking the water. The staff was attentive and pleasant. We did have to pay extra for parking, but the convenience was worth it. The location was perfect for exploring all of the town. There are many fine restaurants - would recommend Vicolo Stretto

“Good location, great views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

We stayed here in late November, just before the hotel closed for the winter. We wondered if the staff might be winding down ready for their break but that was certainly not the case. The staff throughout the hotel were very helpful and attentive.
Our room was at the front of the hotel and we woke each morning to fabulous views out to sea and across the pretty town gardens to the greek theatre. Our room was a good size but it lacked storage space for clothes but had many thin book shelves which were too small to keep clothes on. The decor was a bit tired and the room and bathroom could definately do with updating.
The breakfast is wonderful and should keep the hungriest of travellers satisfied for much of the day.
Don't miss a wander round the beautiful garden behind the hotel it is packed full of lots of interesting plants.
The location of the hotel is excellent and just a few steps (there are steps everywhere in Taormina!) from the Umberto Corsa, the main tourist route through the town. But don't miss exploring all the fascinating side paths around the town you come across some beautiful spots.

Dear guest from Winchester, it is obviously gratifying to learn that our hotel staff did not give any signs of winding down before our winter brake but were helpful and attentive even on the last day of our seasonal opening March to November. If it wasn't for their good souls, Villa Schuler would fail to meet our guest‘s expectations of a small hotel with a great personal attention. We will reopen after our winter refurbishings on March 10, 2012 and the Villa Schuler team will be again there again to serve you.

One of your statements gives the impression that our rooms have no cupboards, which if of course not true. What an adequate storage space is depends of course on very personal feelings and also on the quantity of luggage clients travels with. And it depends obviously also on the room-type reserved. Our smallest cupboard is one meter (3.3 ft) wide, some rooms have armoires and wardrobes twice that wide, and then there are also lockers, hutches, drawers and shelves.

The larger the room, the more storage spaces you obviously have. We have 10 room-types and the very detailed room descriptions of our web site at the moment do not report their different measures. Next month our new hotel website will be online and there will be many additional details also about this mostly neglegted aspects when hotels describe their rooms.
So for the moment I will list our guaranteed indoor minimum measures here in square meters (in brackets ft2)

ATRIUM DOUBLE 22,9 (246 ft2)
DOUBLE GARDENSIDE 17,7 (191 ft2)
DOUBLE GARDENVIEW with balcony 19,5 (210 ft2)
SUPERIOR DOUBLE GARDENVIEW with terrace 22,1 (227 ft2)
DOUBLE SEAVIEW with balcony or terrace 15,9 (171 ft2)
TRIPLE SEAVIEW with balcony or terrace 19,9 (214 ft2)
SUPERIOR DOUBLE SEAVIEW with balcony 24,4 (263 ft2)
SUNRISE JUNIOR SUITE with terrace 20,4 (220 ft2)
JUNIOR SUITE with terrace 27,1 (292 ft2)
THE GARDEN VILLA SUITE 46,2 (497 ft2)

This indoor measures room plus bathroom do not include the room’s outdoor private areas as balconies, loggias or terraces. This are our guaranteed minimum surface measures, so some allocated rooms might turn out to be even bigger.

Super Location, better than I thought it would be based on maps etc. Stayed with two children. Staff super friendly and helpful. Rooms nice and comfortable. Priced very well. We had a room with a sea view that was spectacular! Breakfast served on a terrace overlooking the sea as well. We had a rental car which they parked in a garage for us. Really a good choice.

“Short break”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

Having booked and paid for A SUPERIOR DOUBLE ROOM and having viewed and reviewed the photos on the site I am still not convinced that we were allocated the room we paid for and should have had . Since this was only a short break before moving on to the Una Palace in catania we decided to put up with it and make the most of it . So , putting the above aside I would say that the location of the hotel is very good , so long as one is prepared to face the not so well illuminated and frequented steps !! up to the centre . The breakfast was relatively OK , though limited and the staff were nice and friendly in their own way . A bit pricey overall.

Room Tip: Make sure you are given what you pay for .

Dear client from Malta,
we thank you for taking the time to write a comment about your stay here and appreciated your compliments about the hotel and it‘s staff. We always learn from the useful TripAdvisor reviews and your unusual comment helped us rethink about one specific detail.

You state that you are convinced that you were allocated a different room from the one you booked. This is absolutely not true. You booked online on our web site a Superior Double with sea view and for the 2 nights Oct.31 to Nov.2 you were allocated our room #10 which IS a Superior Double with sea view. The room description of our website and the one that was reconfirmed first online and then by email to you was: (quote) “spacious room with larger bathroom with Jacuzzi tub-shower combination, hair dryer, individually controlled A/C, telephone, free Wi-Fi, satellite TV with radio, refrigerator, safe and balcony with sea view”.

None of the described details were missing in your Superior sea view room #10. After double-checking all details I’m quite sure that your doubts aroused simply because in 2 of the 5 photos of our web site featuring the Superior Doubles with sea view the tiles of the room-floor were not the same ones as those of your room #10. I have to make clear that all our Superior Doubles with sea view have unique different antique Sicilian tiles. Our traditional 100 years-old handmade “graniglie di cemento” tiles all have unique patterns, decorations and colours. All of them differ from room to room simply because they were all produced tailor-made for each single room.
Of course it would have been more practical if you would have confronted us with your doubts directly here so we would have cleared your uncertainties immediately on the spot.

Your TripAdvisor review and comments drew our attention to the necessity to slightly change the selection of photos of our web site concerning this room type in order to feature at least a couple of our different floor tiles.

Finally I would like to take this opportunity to state firmly that in all the 26 years I’ve been managing the Villa Schuler in it’s 3rd generation, we never ever had one single guest that has been allocated a different room type from the one reserved.
