About La Frescura, near Syracuse:

As I was planning on going back to La Frescura, I accidently stumbled upon the less -than-positive comments of " the Travelling Dutchman", and I felt I must comment upon it:

Yes, I definitely agree with you about the hosts; who wouldn't?... However, I can't help but wonder what has been going on since last autumn... My younger daughter - who is notoriously hard to please, and wasn't too keen about going to Sicily to begin with - loved La Frescura, and now wants to return, as I'm planning a second journey to Sicily...
I considered your complaints, and, obviously the whole of the Sicilian traffic problem must've landed there... When we were there, it was heavenly quiet. We live in Sweden - probably one of the most silent countries on earth, barring you live in a desert - and I have never slept better than at La Frescura... It DID feel like a foreign place, altogether...
As for the price, I'll grant you it was not cheap; but find a cheap place inside the Euro-zone!...

The good;
- The hosts are magnificent in every single way!
- The fresh produce is wonderful. Lemons and oranges abound.

The bad;
- You're never free from the sound of the motorway. That, to us, was a bit of a letdown. You never get the felling you're 'away from it all'.
- The apartments are okay, but not much more. A bed and a sparsely equipped kitchen. That's about it.
- There's no place to relax in private once you get home. The porch is shared among all and the chairs on it are hard and uncomfortable.
- All the above wouldn't be so bad it the price were a bit more reasonable. Both food and accomodation are overpriced.

The experience we had at La Frescura was nor bad, nor good. Not recommendable.

We stayed at La Frescura for two days over the easter weekend. We were accompanied by our two children of 7 and 4 who enjoyed the lovely working farm and particularly the family dogs. Our host Franca made us feel very welcome. La Frescura is a few minutes drive away from the beautiful historic town of siracusa and in close proximity to some lovely beaches.

4 days we (Jan & Marga, from the Netherlands) lodged in a nice situated room at the plaza from La Frescura. Several days the hostess and daughter cooked for us excellent menus for a good price. The breakfest was typical handmade food. Their service and hospitality were very good and personal. We had a good communication because the english language could be spoken.
