Tricky to rate this hotel, actually. We stayed for a week in a superior room which we paid quite a bit extra for because we wanted a sea view. The hotel is really well placed for access to Ortigia, and very close to the water, but the view of the sea from the balconies is pretty much obscured by a row of trees. The building itself is lovely, and the communal areas are stylish with lots of attention to detail. We didn't think quite the same about our room - it was attractive, but furnishings were a little sparse; there wasn't really enough storage space to allow us to unpack and things like a bin and a few hooks would have come in handy. It would have been nice to have some seating on the balcony, too. The room didn't feel complete - a bit more thought needs to go into it. The bathroom was very clean, but obviously pretty old and the layout cramped so not very user friendly. There was a strange kitchen sink and hob unit in an ugly cupboard in an alcove which was a bit odd. Sound proofing is also a bit problematic - because the floors are all stone or wood, the building is quite echo-ey and the sound carries, and we could also quite clearly hear the toilet being flushed in the room next door. All of this would have been fine if we hadn't paid £100 a night - we think that for that amount, we could have expected something a touch more plush. It wasn't ever clear whether breakfast was included in our room rate, but we were given tickets most days for a complimentary coffee and croissant in the nice hotel cafe. All the staff were very pleasant, and the whole hotel was always very clean. If you can get a good rate for a room at this hotel, then great, otherwise, like us, you might feel it's a bit over-priced.
