In August everything is overpriced, so this hotel could be a bargain for budget travelers (compared to an average hotel in NY, this one is a palace!).
The hotel is refurbished on a minimum level (floors, furniture, walls but not the windows).
The rooms are clean, but not spotless.
The area is noisy if the windows are open. However, good sleep quality with A/C.
The breakfast is basic.
Free parking in an open space behind the hotel.
The distance from Ortygia is 25 min on foot, but if you have a car you can drive to Ortygia and leave it at the parking Talete for 1euro.
The main negative point is that the hotel has a distinctive smell..... (especially the first room we were shown).
I booked our women's group for a conference at Hotel del Santuario in February. There were about 30 of us. We all had a great experience! They gave us an excellent price per person for bed and breakfast. The hotel is a little shabby looking and 70's looking inside. Single bed and shower are very small. But they were so friendly and helpful. This is not a luxury hotel but was great for our purposes. The conference room is spacious and pretty. They gave us maps of the area so we could tour the town, and Ortigia Island is a beautiful place to visit and a quick easy drive. The catacombs are a neat place to tour and it and the archeological museum are just blocks away. It's also right across the street from "Madonna delle lacrime" Our Lady of Tears church with the weeping madonna. They also have free parking which is rare in Sicily!
Stayed at the Hotel del Santuario, Siracuse for three days last week.
Great central location for the wonderful museum and other Greek/Roman sites. You can also walk to Ortigia Island in 15 minutes.
Excellent three course dinner for 15 euros, with nice helpful staff. Free parking at the hotel. Hotel and rooms recently upgraded.
Good local bars and small shops in the immediate area.
A good location for visiting Siracuse and Ortigia and good value.
