“intimate and real Sicily”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2010

we stayed 4 days in Arte Palermo and climbed the stairs without problem. Our host Marjolein speaks 7 languages and was able to tell us all we needed to know about Palermo and the places to be. (even wher to buy a shirt from FC Palermo.) We like authentic places and in Arte Palermo that is what you get. A little lack of privacy doesn't bother us, because the friendship and the very cheap price is really the big issue here. You are in the centre of Palermo, nearby. Perfect for a ciry trip

“Friendly hosts and good value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 March 2010

Positives: friendly host (dutch lady) and her dog, spacious room and relatively clean, very arty, good value

Negatives - up 7 flights of stairs, breakfast was basic, not in a very nice part of Palermo (seemed scary out at night)

“Perfect for us!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2009

We felt so at home. Marjolein Wortmann was generous with information about Palermo which gave us a beautiful entry into Sicily. We had a wonderful 3 days exploring the City with her excellent suggestions in hand. Our room was large, sunny, colorful, & full of Ms. Wortmann's terrific paintings. Our room was quiet & private. And the furnishings very comfortable.

It's on the top (5th) floor of a working class apartment building in the historical center. No lift. We're in our 60's & this was no problem. Gritty street, but we felt plenty safe & charmed by this vital city. If you are a tour bus type you probably won't like it. But if you like comfortable adventure -- you'll be delighted.

We also highly recommend the delicious food & warm hospitality provided at Ms. Wortmann's husband's restaurant.

“Artepalermo: Cheap, good value and central”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2008

Me and two friends stayed first 2 nights in June at Artepalermo in Palermo and since we enjoyed our stay there, we had 1 more night there before our return home. Artepalermo is centrally located in Palermo making it possible to walk all over the old town. The B&B is close to interesting markets in the Old town , to restaurants and bars and to the railway station. The B&B has 2 nicely decorated rooms by the owner (who is an artist) nice balconies in connection to the rooms and also a roof top terrace; places to relax after bumping around town.

The owner is very nice and helpful and gives good advice on where to go, what to see and also excellent information about good restaurants. Her housbands fish served at his restaurant is excellent!! The B&B in all gives a good value for money.

“Well located and comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2008

We contacted ArtePalermo to book a double room at the B&B, but when owner Marjolein Wortmann suggested that we rent her centrally located holiday apartment for the same price, we jumped at the chance - and have no regrets.

The bedroom, kitchen and dining room/entry hall were all airy, spacious and clean. The double bed we slept in was firm and comfortable, and the balcony that runs the length of the property was the perfect spot to relax after the sun went down.

We loved the location in the heart of the Albergheria, not two minutes walk from Ballarò market. People in the area were noisy and friendly, and the street food stalls and working men's trattoria's provided an interesting contrast to the more well documented elements of Palermitan dining.

On the first day we had a problem with the front door, but Marjolein's husband Mario runs a restaurant just five minutes' walk down the street and came promptly whenever we failed to gain entry. From the second day the lock had been seen to. In the meanwhile, we were impressed by the availability of our hosts and touched by their friendliness.

We stayed as a couple in the flat for six days and found it a great base for discovering Palermo's centre by foot. For the independent traveller this is an excellent address in a neighbourhood that is both well-located and interesting in itself to explore. The fact it was a bargain was just a bonus
