I was so dissapointed with this place. We booked a room in this hotel for 3 nights but when we turned up.Our room was dark, dull and dusty and we could'nt open the windows as shutters were permanently locked. Our shower head was broken. We had further surprise in the store as we saw rats running around and when we complained they moved us to different room which was not different from previous room. I felt close to tears when I saw dusty bedsheets and found pubic hair and when we complained we were told that rooms were dusty because they haven't had any customers for some time and he further admitted that those pubic hair belonged to the cleaner. We packed our stuff and asked for refund. Which was given to us after we made fuss.
If this place was in england, it would have been shut down for health and safety reasons.

The rooms of the Hotel Moderno are on the third and fourth floor of an old building located a short bus ride (the 101 or 102) from the central train station. I would agree that with the previous reviewer that the ground floor and elevator could use a good cleaning. However, once you arrive at the third floor, the hotel staff is pleasant and helpful and for a very reasonable price, you get a small, clean, tiled room and a continental breakfast with an excellent capuccino. If you are looking for a no-frills room in a convenient and safe location near the Vucciria market, the Oratory of S. Domenico, and plenty of restaurants and cafes, this small hotel may fit the bill.

This is a good value hotel but the state of the hotel reflects what you pay. Reception area and concierge seemed rather seedy but the rooms were clean and fairly spacious.
