Grande Albergo Sole has some great features and some drawbacks. It's location is the best for Palermo. Across the street from the main intersection of the city, near Piazza Bellini, near to the great open air market Ballero' and within walking distance of the Duomo.
The renovated roof top dinning room and bar is wonderful with a view of the city and the mountains that surround the city, The Conca D'oro. The food in the restaurant is top notch. Breakfast is the traditional Italian caffe latte & rolls with eggs & bacon(Italians are still not up to speed with cooking bacon!). On my first stay I stayed in a room that faced the fountain of Shame in the Piazza Municipio. I didn't realize that there was a back part of the hotel. I stayed there with my second group. The rooms needed a fresh coat of paint and some new furniture. I was told last Oct. that the hotel was closing for a top to bottom renovation. I'm looking forward to taking a group there next May.
Another plus is the front desk staff, especially Anna Ferraro, she has always been helpful to me and my group.
