“Spacious, clean, well equipped, excellent rooms!”

Stayed here with a large group at the end of April, as part of our sailing trip around the Aeolian Islands. Nice entrance, staff is very friendly and helpfull. The rooms (mine was 101 i think) are very nice. It was made up for 4 persons, but still very (!) spacious. Nice big windows, airconditioned, nice bathrooms. Really the best. Beds are comfortable, not too soft. The pillow was very thin, so I asked for an extra pillow which was no problem. Unfortunately we couldn't use the breakfast, because we had to checkout at 5 AM. I asked for a breakfast package, but this wasn't possible. I think that would make kind of sense, because I'm sure the others would want this too as soon as they heard about it, so we simply should have asked for this in advance so they could have prepared this.
Nevertheless I really enjoyed my stay here!

btw, I have no idea about the price/quality ratio. Our treasurer handled the payment, so I have no clue about the price..

Room Tip: Room 101 was nice! Close to entrance, quiet.

“Unless you are an Olympic hurdler going to the toilet will be a problem.”

I had to vault over the bidet to access the toilet which was wedged into a space that could only be comfortably used by a small, adventurous child. The hotel is shabby, frilly with nightmarish faux Klimt paintings and bonkers murals, staff are bored or snippy. Breakfast is plastic ham and cheese and there was almost an international incident when I asked for a second coffee. It arrived with a shrug, slopped all over the saucer. It's a bit of a walk to the interesting part of town. Do yourself a favour and pick somewhere else. Joli it ain't.

“Pleasant hotel - but avoid the economy rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2010

If you’re coming by taxi, pronounce the name in French – an English J will get you to the Jolly Hotel elsewhere in the city.

You should be able to tell from the contrasting reviews that Hotel Joli has a split personality. The superior rooms are excellent: the economy rooms are basic. Being someone who can’t resist a cheap deal, I went for the bargain basement – literally. We finished up in the dreaded room 109. You open the door and you are confronted by a staircase down to what must have once been the coal cellar. That said, the lobby at the bottom of the stairs provided extra space and both bedroom and bathroom were of a reasonable size. The window opened out onto a service area surrounded by air-conditioning units and overlooked by the terrace. It was too noisy to sleep with the window open, but the air-conditioning was efficient and having the window shut kept the mosquitoes at bay. The bedroom contained a huge bed – made up of two singles pushed together and just one chair. The bathroom included a good sized shower cubicle but nowhere to keep toiletries.

Wifi wouldn’t work in the room. However, there was a lobby nearby with two comfortable armchairs and excellent wifi reception.

Breakfast was the usual continental selection of coffee or tea and various breads, cakes and biscuits to eat with it. There was a selection of rather sweet juices. A Sicilian breakfast is available at a supplement, but none of the guests had the courage to order one. When we were the only people in the breakfast room, the staff were friendly, but they tended to get flustered when the room was crowded around 9:00am. Front desk staff were very helpful.

The hotel is in the modern part of the city close to the Politeama theatre. From there, you can get a bus to anywhere in the city. Buy your tickets in the tobacconist – there is a bus company kiosk near the theatre but the incumbent didn’t seem remotely interested in selling anything.

“A friendly welcome and a comfortable bed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2010

Very friendly and helpful staff, they greeted us like long lost friends, helped us with our baggage and advised the most reasonable places to eat. It is an upmarket area with a fine pedestrian street two small blocks away. Try the Chinese restaurant on the corner, great taste great value. Free internet, most useful. The shower was a bit small (I never found abig one in Italy) and you had to reverse into the toilet.
