“Too far out of the way”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2011

Not unless you have a car! Basically the hotel is fine, clean, tidy, staff are fine, nothing especially exciting and so I am a bit surprised at how good the other reviews are. However the poor score comes from it's terrible location. A cab from here to Palermo will cost around 25 Euros but they will try and charge you more. Even at that price it means going out for the evening will cost you 50 Euros there and back. Apparently there is a free shuttle bus - but it leaves at 9am and returns at 4pm. Outside of these hours you can pay 10 Euros (per person) to arrange for the hotel minibus to take you to Palermo BUT you have to book it the day before! You may also be told that there are buses - this may well be the case but they are more than infrequent. We waited for almost an hour before I gave up and actually hitched my girlfriend and I a ride into town! Eventually I gave up and just moved to a hotel actually in Palermo. Oh and the internet was broken.

“130 euros a night seemed a lot and that included a negotiated reduction”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2010

Enjoy Palermo without the noise and traffic - in an historic converted paper mill - just beside Monreale. The Hotel does look impressive and the girl on the desk is helpful but at 9.30 at night we can get nothing to eat or drink not even a cup of coffee. The room is large but rather worn and the beds are very hard. Our friends who arrived earlier had eaten " a very poor rissotto" in the restaurant. They changed rooms because the toilet cistern ran persistantly and noisily. We had a huge vocal alsation under our window and every garden in the "quiet" area had a barking dog taking turns to set each other off, so it was not an undisturbed night. There is a lovely courtyard and the staff we saw were friendly but it did not fulfil its "find" status from the Fromer guide and it was much further from Monreale than it said.

“A refugium beyond Palermo´s busy streets”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2009

Very comfy, very relaxing, tastefully furnished, with a great atmosphere to calm down from Palermo´s hectic street life. Staff was absolutely cordial, whenever needed, a helping hand showed up. Even more, from time to time staff had a little something for me - a glass of prosecco, a piece of wedding cake from an ongoing celebration, an appetizer, a very special red wine, ...
It is located close to a little village where you can enjoy culture as well as the inhabitants daily life!
The only pity is that the Baglio Conca d´Oro has no wellness or spa facilities.
Nevertheless, a great place to stay!

“Nice hotel”

My wife and I spent a night in early october at the hotel which is conveniently located close to Monreale.
The hotel is an old and spacious house with nice furniture. The personnel has traditions and style.
We would recommend the hotel to anyone who wishes to visit Monreale.

“Outstanding hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2005

It is hard to imagine anyone finding serious fault with this hotel. It is without question one of the best in Sicily in terms of comfort, ambience, surroundings, service and overall excellence. Contrary to an earlier review, it is not at all far from either Palermo (about 15 minutes) or Monreale (about 10 minutes). In fact, it is perhaps the most convenient hotel to Monreale, which makes it all the more appealing -- the Monreale cathedral being one of the top sights in Sicily (and much more interesting than anything in Palermo itself). At the Conca D'Oro, the rooms are big and comfortable, the air conditioning works well, the public areas are warm and friendly, the open courtyard is lovely, the food and service in the dining room are very good and the surrounding hills are gorgeous. What more could you want? Well, a swimming pool, maybe ... but everything else about this place makes it a real find, especially booked and paid for in advance at a rate of about $110 Euros a night!
