Do NOT stay at this hotel, ever, under any circumstance.. My 4 nite experience Nov 3-7 was the worst at any hotel in any city around the world. My first room was ok, its name La Lupa (303). However after 2 nites the room temperature would not go below 24+C/0ver 75F because there is no ventilation (air conditioning was off for season and heat uncontroolaby on), they moved me to room 202 where it was not supposed to be so hot, and it had a balcony/door. Despite temps in Catania being in the upper 60s/low 70s, and they had the heat on, the room would not cool. This morning, after my first nite in the new room, i awoke with 10 bites on my FACE, and several on my body. The hotel staffwoman said they were mosquitos (in retrospect they must know there is a problem). Since my face was so swollen, i asked what i should do, and the woman at the desk said that the driver would take me to a farmacia before my tour. As i started to get angry i asked if the hotel would pay for the medicine. She said no and there would be no compensation. Even in India, where i got bites in the hotel garden, they summoned a medic to look at me and then comp'd my stay for the inconvenience. This hotel gives Catania and Italy a bad name. If there are bugs in the room, they are responsible. I did not sleep with the door open, so the bugs must have gotten in during the day. Tonite is my last nite here and i would have moved to La Principe (breaking my travel contract), but they were full and my Hotel Royal was pre paid. The hotel said they sprayed the room and there is now sn insect repellant plugged into a socket. For disclosure: I am being paid to visit hotels in Italy to document the experience of a woman traveling alone. They have given me permission to write this critique. Stay away from this hotel. It should be called Royal Ripoff.
