“cheap small rooms and no a/c”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

its true that its cheap... we went there in AUG/SEP it is not the cheapest but not expensive either... then they did not turn on the a/c and it was listed on the accomodations list and the room for 4 persons is small and the shower is really small its better if you take two rooms

Room Tip: dont book the quad room for 4 persons it is not a 4 persons room its a room whit 4 beds and a small...

“good deal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

We stayed here for 1 night. It worths going there, since there are clean rooms, some of them a bit small (shower cabin too), welcoming staff, kind and reliable. They stored our luggage, too after checking out. Breakfast was great in a nice dining-room, the view over the city is great...

It is a bit far from the downtown, but you can go there by bus - tickets form the tobacco shop, bus station on the next street. They have a great shuttle service we used when coming form the airport.

For a couple of nights, definitely go for it!

“Cheap and good value - Recommended”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

The hotel is situated in the outskirts of Catania. Make sure you use a GPS as finding it might be a bit difficult. Once arrived, we found a parking area which was quite OK and was free. The reception staff were very friendly and the room was OK too. The AC is not so strong and the shower is a bit small but this is what to expect from a budget hotel. Apart from this everything else is OK especially the breakfast which is excellent. It's also great to see friendly staff in this hotel and helpful when you need them. I recommend this hotel!

“Economy accommodation quite far from centre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2010

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. The hotel features free private parking, it was essential for us since we traveled by car.

The hotel is located quite far from city centre. It takes about 30-40 minutes to reach the centre on foot. However it wasn't a problem for us, because we love to walk being on vacation. Be prepared that there are not restaurants close to the hotel, all of them are 10-20 minutes on foot. The supermarket is the closest source of food and drinks.

The room was very basic, but clean. Breakfast was also very basic and meagre. But the price is unbeatable! If you need simple and economy accommodation is Catania Villa Mater is the right choice.

“Haven of quiet in a busy city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2010

Difficult to find, go on the motorway from airport so get into Canilicchio and then ask. Mad drivers.Room clean and spacious, bathroom small but fine for 2 weeks. Breakfast lovely with friendly staff.Free secure parking.Bus closeby for Catania Centre.Take away food in Canillichio 2 mins in car or 15 walking.View of Etna from window. Choose a day with no cloud to go to Etna. Very good value .2 free public beaches in Catania bus available Lots of private lidos where you pay for facilities on beach Once you get your route sorted out to get out on to motorway very good centre for travelling to all important
sites in all of Sicily. Road signs practically non existent except on motorway and quite good away from Catania take a good map and stay calm!! Sat nav useful but we were good without one
