“Nice Location, Needs Updating”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

I recently stayed for two weeks at the this hotel on a business trip. The hotel itself was in a perfect location; close to shops and restaurants. The hotel looks pretty nice from the outside, and when you walk in the lobby is just as nice. However the room I stayed in was in need of updates. I was there with several other people on this trip, and their rooms varied in upgrades. A couple of the rooms had upgraded flat screen TVs, while I had an old CRT. Not that big of a deal, as I wasn't there to watch TV. The walls seemed pretty bare. But the room was clean. The A/C was turned off, and unfortunately the weather outside was pretty warm so I had to keep my window open which allowed several mosquito's into the room and left me with many bites. The staff would not turn the AC on as they said AC season was over. Europe can be frustrating. My door also had a broken door knob which would pull off from the outside if you tried to close the door that way. It still locked, but I was certainly concerned about it.

Our rate included the breakfast which was your typical Italian hotel breakfast spread; meats, cheese, cereal, hard boiled eggs. It had the typical Sicilian Blood Orange juice as well. The two ladies who worked there most often soon recognized us and had our variety of coffee orders ready for us when we arrived.

The front desk staff was also very friendly. Overall, the hotel is nice, its kind of basic in many ways, but it was quiet and clean. I would stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the main street if you want to watch the locals.

“Great hotel”

Having travelled with the family for a good number of years I would venture to say that this was the best . Friendly staff who go out of their way to help any time of the day . Rooms done up twice with pleasant "surprises" left in the evening . Centrally situated in a city thats becoming more business like .Breakfast was excellent with a good choice for all .The restaurant , though maybe a bit pricey , was again very good , excellent service and one is well looked after .Definitely worth visiting .

Room Tip: Book early and try the Junior suite

“A real first class hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

Having stayed at many hotels during the years I would say that this one of the best. Freindly staff giving that little extra without being pushy, the room was immaculate. After breakfast the room was done, and when coming back in the evening it was set for the night. Excellent breakfast and everything tasted good. The only little minus was the €20 for parking, but then it was parked for you in the garage. Stay there if you go to Catania!

“Eh....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

Alright....Ill start by saying that this is a *VERY* basic hotel. If you're here for a couple of days MAX, arent too picky, and are happy with just having a clean, modern place to stay...then Una makes the mark. However,if you're expecting any sort of amenities, or a staff that is eager to help in any way, then you're off the beaten path. The staff fumbled a bit of a huge tidbit for me (long story short, the staff dropped the ball on a very special request that I had. Thankfully, Valerie saved the day in the 11th hour!), you have to request a robe, shampoo, a shower cap, etc., and most of the front desk staff was very unfriendly. The dining room staff was great, but the food was far from traditional.
All in all Id give it a 6 out of 10, because it was in fact very clean, and I wasnt there to spend a lot of time in the hotel, anyway. I havent stayed in Sicily before, so I cant say Una's competitors are any better, but I CAN say that it was "just ok".

Dear guest,
We would like to thank you for choosing the UNA Hotel Palace in Catania during your recent visit.

We always read our guests’ comments with interest as this is the best means of measuring the standard of hospitality that we strive to reserve for all our guests.

This time, even if you do not express a negative opinion about your stay, we wish to remind you that your “special request” has been received by email 2 days before arrival and you received immediately answer by our Guest Relation concerning costs and conditions for the external service, waiting your reply to confirm it.

In the evening, at your arrival, you asked again for the “special request”, therefore, having not received any confirm in reply to our email, our staff immediately started to look for a new available service despite the late hour.

We received only one positive answer at night but, the day after as you already know, the driver came without the translator due to his physical conditions.

As by our agreements our Guest Relation immediately planned everything with another agency and you started in a few minutes.

We are sure to have done our best to make pleasant your stay and satisfy your special request.

We also want to accent that our staff is very helpfully and friendly with all our guests always.

We sincerely hope we may have the pleasure of welcoming you back to UNA Hotel Palace in the near future.

Best regards
Massimiliano Torre

“Avoid the airport pick-up”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

Booked into this hotel following positive reviews and asked them to arrange a pick-up from the airport. This cost 30 euros which I thought was a bit extravagant, especially when I found out that there is a direct bus from outside the door of the hotel (tickets cost 1 euro). Room was very nice apart from the view. But then you have the rooftop cafe (which was closed for much of the day. In the evening they do some quite tasty antipasti here). Breakfast was good, pleasanter on a day when there weren’t too many tour groups bustling about the buffet. Use of internet was expensive and unreliable. Overall an agreeable place to stay for a few days. It’s near the centre but the walk to the train station is a bit unpleasant. We noted that almost every car on the road had been either broken into or dented. There are plenty of eating places in town, some quite expensive and service can be slow. We had lunch in the department store across the road (Rinascente) - this place does good snacks. Unfortunately we could not go on the Etna tour due to poor weather conditions on several days.
