Wonderful hotel with exceptional service. The front desk staff was very helpful.
First time I recomend a hotel's restaurant! They have fresh fish and pasta! I recomend the desert as well, designed dishes will arrive! Well, all i want to say is thanks!! Amazing building, in a particular zone perfect for who want to see the iland. Great staff, fantastic food and... Well, good price!
Stayed here for 2 nights with a friend. Booked a twin room- said so very clearly on our booking form. The porter took us over from "old hotel" to new hotel, and brought us to a double room. Before we could say anything, a maid stuck her head in the door and then angrily rang reception that we should have twin room! We were swapped to a twin room - I didn't like the blackness of the rooms - very dark, Nice bathroom but small, and nice small balcony.
The breakfast was one of the worst I've had in Italy - the coffee that's left out was was like tarry chicory - when we noticed the Italian guests requesting cappucinos etc from the waiters, we did too, and they were alright. However, on neither morning was coffee offered to us. The highlight was the fresh orange juice- but you've to drop the oranges in the machine yourself. The ham and cheese were synthetic, the pastries almost stale with an attempt to recuse them by keeping them in a hot plate resulting in hard, tough pastry!
We took a taxi in to Piazza Duomo (15euro each way). The second night we stayed in hotel - first we went to the bar for a cocktail - the waiter moved us the other bar (in the modern part of hotel), as a large group had a private part in the modern part, but were having a cocktail reception in the main bar, complete with opera singer. The modern bar was empty and deserted, so we moved ourselves to the restaraunt. We waited 5 minutes there, there was no one around, so we had to go up to the receptionist who went and found the waiter. While he had a good English and tried to be helpful, the meal was very poor.
Catania is not a great city - there are much better places in Sicily. If I had to stay in Catania again, I would not choose here.
Villa Del Bosco is an excellent hotel a little bit out of the town but so well worth a visit. Lovely friendly welcome from our hotel receptionist Francesca, and even the porter/cleaning staff, made us feel right at home. There was 7 in our group of family/friends staying there, We stayed in the newer part of the hotel, which was clean, chic and had a contemporary feel about it. The rooms were very clean and well presented and breakfast was continental but plentiful. Loved the hotel. Catania was lovely, people so friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing, we found a lovely restaurant in town which we went to a number of times during our stay because of the excellent food, friendly staff and excellent customer service. We also took a guided tour to Mt Etna wow what an experience, our guide was very knowledgeable good fun which made the trip more enjoyable! Excellent!
We stayed one night at Villa del Bosco on our way back - we simply wanted to be nearer to the airport after staying 12 days in the countryside. We would not have picked this hotel if we had not had a car, but the hotel offers private secure parking on the premises (8 Euro). It is perfect if you don't want to stay in the hectic loud city center. The staff, especially Antonio at the desk, was very helpful and friendly. The hotel itself is very beautiful, old time charme but nicely renovated. We had a great breakfast with a view over the city and the coast: the breakfast buffet was very good and offered something for almost anybody (with one exception: no eggs!). Our room appeared to be spacious and comfortable, the mattresses were fine and the bathroom of a very good standard. We had a hard time falling asleep because the traffic outside was still noisy but when we closed the windows, it became very hot inside (I am not sure if there was aircon). Everything was clean with one exception: the carpet on the stairs to our room as well as in our room had lots of stains. In a four star hotel you would expect more attention to details like this. The pool is small, but actually wonderful for children. We would stay here again if we would just be visiting the City of Catania.
