We arrived at midnight, and were greeted by name (I guess we were the last ones on the arrival list), this was very welcoming. The receptionist spoke perfect English and was very friendly.
Our room was perfect! Very stylish, with an enormous balcony (more like a terrace). There was free wi-fi, and free minibar (drinking water and soft drinks like Coke and Fanta).
Breakfast was great - fresh orange juice, wonderful pastry, delicious cheese and ham, and much more. Didn't like their coffee though. Don't drink the american coffee that is on the buffet, ask the waiter for a capuccino or espress or whatever you like - it's also included in the breakfast price.
The reception was very helpful in giving directions and recommendations. They helped us choose and Etna day tour, and we were completely satisfied. Also, they printed train and bus timetables for us and advised where to go and what to see. Very helpful.
Do not use the city taxi, it is much more expensive than the hotel driver. If you want to go to the airport, go with the hotel driver. It costs only twenty five Eur, and it is quick and safe, and reliable.
We had a great time at Katane Palace Hotel. They have a restaurant that was mentioned in the Michelin red guide, but it was expensive and didn't look much attractive.
The location is convenient, but it's a short walk to the centre. Be very careful in the sidestreets, they all look the same and it's very easy to get lost.
