“A very pleasant B & B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 June 2006

Overall, the Sardinia Domus is a great little place.

Starting at the entrance, some of the other reviews have commented on the stairway. I am 59 years old, overweight (see below), had a heart attack in 2003, and have occasional problems with my ankle (carrying a stick as a precaution at time of visit). I had no problems getting up and down the stairs, even with luggage.

The place is clean, reasonably priced (EUR 45 for a single with shower and WC), and friendly. The breakfast is a pretty copious "continental" job - not the thing if you demand your morning fry-up, but very enjoyable and potentially "filling" for those who don't want a big lunch.

My room was at the back (hence no view - not a problem for me) and quite large for a single. My one quibble, given the space available to those adapting the space as a guest bedroom, was that the shower could have been a bit bigger. As mentioned above, I'm fat, and getting into and out of the shower was a tight fit. (I've stil got the red line on my belly left by the shower door!)

Situation on Largo Carlo Felice was fine, with no traffic noise - a pleasant surprise given the "busy-ness" of the area.

“Great B&B, Super Friendly!”

Domus B&B is one of those great places you stumble upon by sheer luck and then spend your time wishing you were staying longer. Domus is billeted as an Italian B&B and a handful of languages are spoken there, but little of it is English. Most of the guests we met spoke Italian and at least one other language other than English, like French or Spanish. But I found that most Sardinians don't speak much English anyway so its not that unusual on the island (I don't speak any Italian). Be prepared with some basic Italian phrases to help others help you or travel with someone who speaks the language.

At Domus, it was amazing to find that even with the lack of a common language, the host and hostesses answered every question I had - through a combination of expressive gestures, a really helpful map, lots of smiles and nods, a few words (like welcome) and bend-over-backwards friendliness and helpfulness.

There is a normal flight of stairs to the first floor but no elevator, and the rooms branch off from there, all on the same floor. The kitchen and breakfast alcove are lovely and breakfast was a delightful help-yourself smorgasbord of yoghurt, fruit, coffee, tea, juice, biscuits, cake and toast, all freshly made by a wonderful older lady who smiled a lot. When we arrived in the morning, our room wasn't quite ready but they were so apologetic about it and we were encouraged to sit down and put our feet up. The room had an original ceiling and was very clean and neat, but what we liked best was that we had our own bathroom with all-day hot water, a big picture window, air conditioning and a TV with MTV music channel. There is no curfew, the safety was top-notch and you get your own keys too. Domus B&B is very close to the station and to the buses that go to the beach so you don't have to walk far in the heat, but at the same time its far enough away that you don't hear the noise of the port/terminus.

The place and the people really make your stay enjoyable and they were great to us! I will definitely be a return visitor!

“Great B&B in perfect location”

We stayed in Domus for 2 nights in August and we loved this place. It is in a very central location and really easy for the port, train and bus station, and for central Cagliari's bars amd restaurants.

It is on the first floor with no lift so it would not be suitable for people with mobility problems.

We couldn't complain about our room which had a nice view over Largo Carlo Felice, and was immaculatly clean.

The breakfast was good too, with fresh fruits, breads, yoghurt, cake and croissants.

But the best thing about Domus is the staff, who are so friendly and bend over backwards to be helpful. We would go back in an instant and would definitely recommend Domus to anyone looking for a clean, friendly B&B in central Cagliari.

Only time I've ever walked in and straight out, forfeiting euro200 deposit.
Don't be deceived by clever photos expecting a hidden secret.
You will drive up and down for 20 mins trying to find front door (it's next to the building site at the Rinacentre end of the street by the way).
Location is fine, but you have to climb one of the steepest staircases ever seen. There is no lift or any way to attract attention of staff to assist. The call bell on the front door doesn't seem to do anything.

Physically couldn't face this with 2 children, never mind luggage. Idea of climbing this "Matterhorn" evertime was horrifying!

Room on offer is similar to those dormitories for lorry drivers in Shepherds Bush. Appalling view over service area. Bleak.
As to language, there is no attempt to try English other than for them to say they would not refund any part of deposit.
Gave up and eventually found the Hotel Meditteraneo where I am now a regular.
ps The Domus is not cheap either, so don't be fooled by the B&B designation. They were charging me 120 euros a night for 1 adult and 2 children off season.

“Great B&B!”

We took the Terrenia ferry from Civitavecchia to Cagliari on the 16 hour overnight run. (do yourself a favor, spring for the 1st class cabin) There is some great shopping to be done in Cagliari and if you want to "beach-bum-it," like we did, Il Poetto is an easy bus ride away. Sardinia can be miserably hot in the summer, so come prepared. There's not an overabundance of things to see or do in Cagliari so if you get bored easily you would be well advised to rent a car or motorcycle to get out into the countryside.

Now, to the Sardinia Domus. We searched far and wide for a inexpensive B&B to stay at in Cagliari. We finally found the Sardinia Domus and it looked like it fit our needs. A great little place, I think maybe 4 rooms. We had this HUGE room with 2 beds and basically two rooms, almost like a suite. In fact, we felt sort of guilt with just the two of us taking up so much space. The breakfast is great and the staff friendly, although language was a bit of a barrier since no once spoke English, we got by however. Excellent location. There's probably nicer and cheaper places to stay in Cagliari, but we'd go back to this place in a second.
