Hotel is only OK if you're staying for *one* night. Using as a stop-off if you arrive late in Calgiari as it's about 10 mins from the airport along a straight motorway. Then leave after breakfast the following day and head north for Costa Smerelda where you will find the real Sardinia and the type of holiday you're actually looking for (amazing food, beaches, scenery). Hotel Grillo was kinda smelly, breakfast was AWFUL, and none of the staff spoke a word of English. The hotel is a large B&B, not made for actual holidays. At only €70/night, you can't really expect anything more.

When l booked this hotel l was confused by reviews on Trip Advisor for another Hotel Grillo in Sardinia which were poor. If you are staying in Hotel Grillo, 123 via Carmine in Assemini - relax its a brilliant hotel, the other one is somewhere else. The hotel is about 3.5 miles from Cagliari airport and it cost approx 15 Euros for a taxi. We stayed in a junior suite - the rooms and bathroom are spotlessly clean and in good repair but don't expect 4* - more like 3*. However this is the only negative thing. We stayed for 3 days and the staff at the hotel could not do enough for us, there was an issue with the jacuzzi in our room which they handled brilliantly. There is a lovely pool and sun longer area at the hotel which we really enjoyed. The hotel is 1 min from a Spar like shop if you want to buy drinks/food etc and there are restaurants and ice cream parlours all around and within easy walking distance. You can catch the bus (4 Euros per person return) into the port of Cagliari - bus route 9. This is worth doing just for a walk around the harbour and a look-see at all the expensive boats, some great (but expensive) shopping in Cagliari as well. Overall it was the staff and the service that made this hotel so lovely. Highly recommended.

We(4 adults) stayed at the Il Grillo after a long day of flying from the USA via Rome. We booked on Booking.com and got a good rate for a quad.
We were greeted by Marco who helped us settle in by suggesting a terrific pizzeria within walking distance. He supplied us with silverware and a place to eat our take out in the lobby. The room was very clean, the bathroom was huge and the shower wonderful, and nice fluffy towels.
We liked the Grillo so much that we booked another night just before we left Sardinia. When we had some problems with the AC, the manager promptly moved us to another room.
The breakfast was good. If you stay at the Grillo and you speak English be sure to talk to Lucca, the waiter, he loves to practice his English.
PS the hotel is a little hard to find, it is a sharp left at the rotary. it's worth it. Oh, I forgot to mention the pool. It is one of the prettiest, cleanest pools. find time for a swim

The food was excellent and the hotel's location was close to every tourist spot including the beaches. The hotel has a very trendy disco underground, but it's conceiled therefore enableing hotel guests to maintain their quiet comfort and privacy.
In is considered the best hotel on the island of sardinia.
