“Always worth to return”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

After my first trip to Alghero in July 2008, I returned this fall to stay at the Big Fish B&B to enjoy the beatiful city of Alghero and its wonderful genuine rural outskirts. And again: It was much worth it to choose the Big Fish B&B to feel like living like a real Sardinian. My thanks go to Franca, who was again much dedicated to make me feel home during my holidays. After this relaxing and sunny week at the Big Fish, I am already planning my next trip to Alghero!

“attention to the swindle, attenzione alla truffa, attention à l'escroquerie, atención al timo”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2010

Problems found for the structure:
1) I booked BIG FISH B&B, but I was forced to go to ABA MAYA, which has no comments on the web and it is not even registered among B&B in Alghero. When you arrive you need to call on the mobile phone, because they bring you to this other house, which is not the one you booked for.
2) Cleaning of the room does not included the beds and the beach material is overused; the breakfast was composed by cheap and not fresh foods; the juice was not even in the fridge; the “jam” has only 20 per cent of fruit…
3) A final episode: I left the suitcase in the house during my last day. When I came back I was forced to pay 90 Euros for a fake reparation to a tap of the bathroom: even if I was sure it was not broken when I left, I had to pay to have my suitcase back and avoid to lose the plane.

“great place to stay for a weekend trip to Alghero”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2010

We stayed at the Aba Maya Alghero for a long weekend in Alghero.

Keeping things short and simple:

- Ylenia (the owner) and her mom (the owner of Big Fish) are simply delightful. They explained everything as soon as we got there and were more than willing to let us rack their brains on everything from what to do and how do they make that special bread to where is the best place to find ..... (fill in the blank).
- clean rooms with tv and fridge (I asked Ylenia beforehand if she would do me a favor and put a bottle of wine in the room with a little happy birthday note and she did which was a great surprise for the birthday boy)
- breakfast area with a coffee machine and microwave and some breakfast snacks, always open so you can enjoy your breakfast at 2:00pm if you so desire!
- quiet neighborhood but still only 5 minutes by foot to the actual CENTER of Alghero
- Both Ylenia and Franca have a very good command of English ( therefore no need for hand gestures or turning a simple question into a soap opera)
- they have a little basket in the breakfast area with shampoo /conditioner and other things left from past visitors who didn't want to deal with checking in luggage for a bottle of soap- so check that before running out to buy a big bottle of shampoo that you will only use twice!)

“Ylenia and Franca make you feel family”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2010

Some friends and I stayed at Big Fish for 3 nights in October 2010. Upon arrival Ylenia (Franca's daughter) made us feel right at home. The highlight of the trip was the leopard decorated rooms. They really are one of a kind! The beds were very comfortable and the neighborhood is quiet at night so we all slept very well. There is a "24 hour breakfast" which is basically croissants, crostini, coffee and tea. It's a fine way to start the morning but there are so many cute cafes in Alghero you should also venture out for breakfast. We met Franca the second day and she was welcoming and gave us great advice about places to eat and things to see. The location of the Big Fish is great, a ten minute walk to the ports, quiet, a supermarket three blocks away, a fruit stand right outside the door. I would definitely suggest staying at Big Fish for the very reasonable price, warm hospitality and fabulous decor.

“We'll be back...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2010

We had booked Big Fish months in advance and arrived, after an 11 hour boat ride, in Alghero to find we were put in the sister-hotel Aba Maya. This was no problem and it was actually round the corner from where we were when we contacted the owner. The room was nice, the self-service breakfast room meant you could help yourself whenever you wanted to, day or night, and a decent espresso machine. There were roadworks outside and someone seemed to be smashing the flat upstairs to pieces for most of the day, then letting a child in hobnail boots run on the tiled floor for the rest of the time. Neither of these issues can be blamed on the b&b though. Air-con in the room was also welcome as it was fairly hot at night. The bed wasn't the best but again, that's more down to what we're used to at home.
The lady who ran the place, Ylenia, was very pleasant and helpful and always available to answer our questions.
First time in Sardegna, definitely not the last, and we'd book here again without hesitation.
