“Great people - great location”

San Francesco is in the middle of the very pretty old town of Alghero, yet incredibly peaceful. The rooms are fine, spotlessly clean and we didn't find the beds particularly hard! But the greatest assets of the hotel are: its location within the church/monastery - breakfast is taken on the first floor of the cloister and this area is open all day to hotel residents so you can have picnics here or read if you're that way inclined; and its staff who could not be more helpful - so thanks Antonello, Marco and all the others.

“Wonderful concert in the monastery's courtyard”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

Very convenient location in the heart of the old town of Alghero. The rooms are modern and well equipped. Friendly staff. Breakfast in the monastery's courtyard. When we were there in late july of this year there was a concert with classical music in the monastery's courtyard. Absolutely wonderful - we have never before experienced such an acoustic. As we understand it these concerts take place every year in the period july - september. As guest at the hotel you can attend the concerts free of charge.

“A pleasant town center visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2011

Great in-the-town center location-- we enjoyed a night in this pleasant, friendly and comfortably unique experience in a modern renovated monastery. We only booked at night when we read the beds were hard in other reviews, but in fact, they were standard compared to other beds we stayed in as we stayed out of town on other nights--springy yet firm. We had a view overlooking the street (not the cloisters which is also an option). The street was rather quiet and we enjoyed the option of air conditioning, but it was cool enough we opted to keep the window open to the narrow street below. The staff provided wifi internet codes and as I sat above the cloisters this night, there was a performance below which took place as part of a 47-year old international concert series in Sept. What an added bonus!
Breakfast in the cloisters of high quality croissants and cappuccino added to the Sardinian authenticity (and were superior to some other hotels where we had breakfast --although some may desire ham and cheese we, felt the selection of breads, marmalade and yogurt were great). We would definitely stay again if we wanted to be in the city center, walking distance to lots of great restaurants and the plaza porto terres outside the gate to catch buses to other towns or beaches. Prices were fair for the modern sparsely furnished room, but the experience and surroundings of the monastery were pleasant.

“Unique...”

This is simply a fabulously unique place to stay. It’s actually part of the old monastery/church and the ambience and calmness is evident. The rooms are simple and so is the breakfast but that’s reflected in the price but it is well worth the stay just for the experience. If at all possible try for a room overlooking the internal courtyard (I think there are only two or three). Highly recommended.

“Great location, basic hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2011

This hotel is in the heart of the old town in a brilliant central location. It's also conveniently very close to the main bus terminal.

The rooms are very basic and the beds are uncomfortable. The hotel has a lot of charm and the breakfast is fairly decent - served in the cloisters.
