My wife and I and three friends took a last minute holiday not really knowing what to expect from Sardinia.
Because of online booking difficulties we found the Hotel Villa Piras via the Tourist Information Office in Alghero and booked in by telephone. A cab was arranged by Sandro, a very helpful night porter (with excellent English) for our pickup at the airport and 45 minutes after touchdown we were checked in at the hotel.. Others reviewers have said that the hotel is run by a family and they could not have been more helpful. My wife and I benefitted by a 'suite' which included two bedrooms capable of sleeping 5 people, ideal for a family break. The breakfasts were eaten on the patio which set the day off well.
The town is a 20 minute walk away (downhill) so the return journey is longer. Beyond the Marina in the town there is a lovely beach with perfectly clear water.
Eating out in the town is good with many restaurants but should you wish to save the walk, the restaurant next to the hotel and separately run is excellent. The season is now closing so this establishment together with others will not open until March of next year.
The friends we travelled with are constant travellers and all were suprised with the quality of life that this town gives - all in all a place to re-visit
