“Great staff, clean rooms, b'fast okay, lunch & dinner so-so”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2009

We stayed at Hotel Aries since it was close to the US base where we needed to be for a few days. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Not all spoke English, but always someone at the front desk did. Our room was pretty normal for a 3 star hotel. The floor was vinyl, not carpet. We had ample room on both sides of the bed for our luggage plus there was a luggage area in the closet. The hotel is near the highway so expect a little traffic noise. We had a little problem with the temperature in the room. The only way we could cool off the room was to turn on the heat, but set it too low to come on. During the day the window was open a bit and let in a nice breeze. Once we tried the AC, but that resulted in hot air being blown in.

We opted for the 10 Euro extra/day business rate on our room because that came with free internet. What you get is a receipt good for 24 NON-consecutive hours that you can renew as often as needed. Or you can just buy a ticket for 15 Euros. We would have saved money by not paying for the "business" room as over the 3 nights we were there we didn't use up our 24 hours of time.

Breakfast was good: muesli, a couple of other cold cereals, pastries (some prepackaged), cold cuts and cheese, fresh fruit, canned fruit, hard boiled eggs. In all, pretty standard for Europe. The lunch and dinners were disappointing. Mostly the food seemed like cafeteria food. If you have to eat there, it is tolerable, but if you can eat somewhere else go for it!

I would stay here again, but first would try for a place closer to town, or try the Hotel Victoria nearby where we had a much better dinner.

“Decent out-of-town hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2009

We stayed a couple of nights here at the end of our holiday. The hotel is well out of town (had trouble finding our way back to it!) and you need a car. There is free parking. The rooms are like an English Travelodge in style, and slightly worn. It was quiet and had air conditioning. The people at the front desk were friendly and helpful, and you could get a cup of tea (or whatever) at the bar any time, even late in the evening. The breakfast was excellent (inc muesli, cheese, ham, eggs, pastries etc) and very good value at 3 euros. It was very good value if sharing a double room (35 euros each inc breakfast). I think I would prefer to stay somewhere in town if I went again, though, but this place was fine.

“Vicenza, The Best Little Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2008

Originally, we were going to stay 5 days visiting our son at the Ederle Military Base. We wound up loving the town and the staff at the Aries. We stayed an additional 3 days. We went to several other larger cities in the area Venice, Florence, etc but enjoyed exploring Vicenza more than others. The hotel was well situated and we found that it's location allowed us to jump on and off buses and trains so we could do alot of exploring.

The staff at the Aries, Fiorella,Valentina,Belinda...all without exception made our stay very pleasant, very welcoming. The rooms are small but sufficient as lodging. It is true that the bathroom is modular but it too is very sufficient.

As an American, I missed our luxury pillowtop mattress and the 200 channels of TV to choose from. I missed the bacon and scrambled egg breakfasts...but once I realized I was having this adventure, absorbing another culture, everything became a wonderful opportunity to embrace this town and it's people.

The staff at the Aries assisted with getting us acclimated by speaking English with extreme patience, pulling information from the Web, giving us tips on how to get around on our own, and so on. I don't think you could have wished for a more accomodating staff.

The rooms were kept very clean, with lots of fresh linens available. I would not stay at this hotel if I was looking for a 5star experience with "luxury" being the mindset. I would think of this hotel more as a decent pair of walking shoes when you have alot of walking to do. Simple, sparse, functionable, and above all friendly.

We hope to visit Vicenza again next year and will rebook with Hotel Aries.

“Even for Italian standards, what a rip off!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2008

Having lived in Northern italy for 5 years now I am aware of the difference in lodging standards VS the U.S. Even with this in mind. I cannot express more discontent with my week long stay at this motel. The only positive thing that I can say about this motel was the courtesy of the staff at the front desk. The rooms were horrible. It was like living in a small plastic igloo. Total plastic modular walls. i could not even move in this room, and the bathroom was even worse. It was not even a real bathroom. About 1 1/2 meters wide by 2 meters, and again you stepped up into the plastic module. i could not even shut the door when I was using the facilities. As for the shower, I could not even fit in it, and I am not a obese person. The food was average in the evening, but overpriced. The breakfast was OK, but very small. But, this is a normal thing in Italy;so I can't complain. It was also very difficult to get any towels when needed. My TV in the room was a small older 15 inch that did not work. Overall, this was the worst hotel that I have stayed in over here in 5 years. Do yourself a favor and spend a little extra for a nicer Hotel.
