“In the end, this was a smokin' deal and well located”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2010

We stayed here for three nights while my wife was pretty sick. Overall, I was very happy with the stay. In particular, the young woman, Elisa, who worked at the desk was top shelf.

Hotel Martini is not right on top of the tourists stops for Verona. Instead, it is very close to the train station which is probably more important, particularly if you plan to visit Lake Garda (which we recommend). The walks to the center of town are very short (less than 1 mile) and since we were heading to the train station with bags, we preferred for that to be the shorter walk. It is also close to the soccer stadium which might be fun for some. They are also attached to Hotel Piccolo which I assume is fairly similar.

One thing we like was the giant window that opened up completely. It was probably a 5.5 feet square at least. If you can get a room on the city side on the fourth floor you will have an excellent view. There is a little terrace on the roof that would be a nice place to set up a picnic.

If you need a late night meal, they can shuttle you to their sister hotel as late as 10pm for a very decent meal. This came in handy with my wife being sick.

Internet access was 5 Euros/day and it worked very well.

We really found ourselves feeling at home here. I would come back without hesitation.

“Clean, comfortable, excellent value for money.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2010

We stayed for ten nights and were very happy with our choice of hotel ( from internet). The double room with good sized bathroom and excellent shower was immaculately clean ( as was the whole hotel). The breakfasts offered an appetizing variety of foods and tables were cleared regularly ( on one occasion the staff was reduced but was no great problem). The offer of self service teamaking in the afternoons was very welcome. The 5 minute walk to the train and bus stations suited our holiday plans ( days out in Venice and Padua and Lake Garda) and on evenings when we did not have the energy for the 15 minute walk into the city for a restaurant we took advantage of the hotel's offer of a free lift to and from a restaurant in another hotel which we found very acceptable ( main menu better than pizzas). The staff at Martini were helpful - dealt with a faulty TV and provided extra pillows on request. Clean towels and sheets every day. Overall the quality of the hotel made our holiday very enjoyable but it would not suit anyone wanting to be located right in the city centre.

“Good and not expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2010

We stayed for one night during opera festival. The room was little, however good. Bathroom was clean and OK. The only thing - the beds were separate and quite narrow.
There was also a shuttle bus to Arena and back.
Restaurant: breakfast was between 7.00 and 10.00, there were different types of meat, cheese, tomatoes and cucumbers. Caffee was from mashine, there were also several types of tea, except green one.
Check in was after 14.00, check out was at 11.00.

“Quiet and very clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2010

Stayed at the Martini in 2003 also during opera season. Bedroom still immaculately clean, bed comfortable, chambermaids helpful and welcoming, bed linen and towels changed daily. The big plus is how quiet it is at night. Yes, it's slightly away from the centre, but I've stayed in several central hotels where there is traffic noise all night. The breakfast buffet is good (especially for Italy), and 24 hr self-service tea/coffee is a good idea. Also, apparently the 2 (small) bottles of water in the minibar are free each day. We didn't know until we checked out and tried to pay.
Sadly, negative comments about staff at reception are true: maybe they are totally fed up with answering the same questions several times each day - during the opera season, many people come for just one or 2 nights, so there is a huge turnover.
Bus no.62 stops 5 mins from hotel, near the Porta Palio, and is useful for getting to Piazza della Erbe, Piazza dei Signori and Juliet's balcony. Definitely recommend buying the Verona Card: free access to the most important sites plus free travel on buses, you very quickly cover the cost EUR10 for 1 day, EUR15 for 3 days. Hotel sells 1 day, you have to go into town or the station to buy a 3-day card.
Two churches highly recommended and within walking distance: St. Bernardino (with the very elegant Pellegrini chapel). and St. Zeno Maggiore (dedicated to St Zenon, a black African who was the 8th Bishop of Verona and died in 380. Look out for his statue: it's said he was always smiling.) From St Zeno, it's a nice walk back by the river, on the Rigaste San Zeno, to Castelvecchio and the typically crenallated bridge of the De la Scala (Scaliger) family.

“Comfortable hotel, excellent location but unfriendly staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 April 2010

Positive:
Perfect location between the city center and the main bus station
Clean
Modern room and bathroom (not fancy but comfortable)
Not expensive
We got there unannounced at 11pm and got a room immediately

Negative:
Some staff members are very rude and unhelpful. They ruined the stay for me personally.
You hear whenever the rooms next to you use the shower/ toilet and when they talk or move things

Kind Guest,

I wanna thank you for the positive rewiev you've written about us, and apologyze if some members of our staff have been rude with you. We always try to be kind and smiley with everyone, cause we like our job, and we like that people from all over the world come visiting our beautiful city. Sometimes we fall, and that is unforgivable.
Sorry
